Those who keep on harping about Tejas timelines have no understanding how long it takes to build bases for technology and where it takes once the base and infrastructure is ready.
Just to give an easy comparision, before Maruti happened in India for decades we had Ambassador and FIATs then for another decade or two it was Maruti entry level 800/Alto etc...But see today, how big the automobile sector has become.
Same is the case with Tejas, it might not be the best of the best, but the entire process has built the base to think about new levels and have capabilities to build things for which we were dependents upon others. May be a decade or two more to see a big industrial base for Aero projects.
