Purpose starting of this topic,to discuss yesterday intrusion, which was night sortie by Indian SU30 and F16 counter them right at the door. Is PAF majority planes are capable of night dogfight or only selective planes has this capability. Or this capability was acquired recently ?

.
There were some talks going on in the US congress committe where the guy defending the sales to Pakistan was saying that Pakistan needed night capabilities to effectively handle the situation on its borders against terroism.

Hi,

The most important aspect of the intrusion is to locate pakistani ground radar, ground to air missile sites----once acknowledged, these sites to be taken out by air to ground missiles.

Indians would want all the "related" pakistani ground based missile batteries radars in that area to come alive and light up the indian planes----thus revealing their locations----it is a cat and mouse game. Unneccessary warming up the radar for a missile lock would also put that site in eternal danger.

To make things clear, there are differences in the capabilities that depend on day/night. Currently, F-16s are capable of full day/night missions against other aircraft. Similarly, F-7s also have day/night intercept capability. The issue that was raised with regards to the F-16s was in line with PGM delivery at night or in foul weather as the current ATLIS LDP is limited to use in day or fair weather conditions. The ROSE Mirages on the other hand are capable of day/night interdiction of ground targets with their FLIR pods. Similarly the Mirage ROSEIs with their GrifoM3 radar are capable of intercepts day/night.

During the Afghan war, most of the PAF kills with F-16s were during night or early morning time when it was pitch black.

If the intrusion was at night, how did they take this photograph?

Its a 'file' photo and not one taken by our F-16!

Indians, by force of habit, are toying around to see the state of readiness of PAF. They have indeed got their answer. Next time, PAF will shoot the Sukhoi's down!

Although I am indeed surprised at our politicians who are taking this incident as an 'inadvertent' act on part of Indians and that the intrusion by the Sukhoi's was a verified 'technical' mistake! No confirmation or denial from the IAF of this incident though!
