The expressway and high-speed railway on the Gobi desert is amazing too.Great, never been to the Tarim only been to the Gobi. Everyone should go to the desert at least once in their life time. Life does stand still when you let your mood sink down to the silence there.
Building such elevated roads in the sand is not economical. Two different ways to build a highway through the desert.
One method is to plant rows of trees (via drip irrigation) along the highway to prevent the desert from encroaching on the highway.
An alternative is to build an elevated highway. Have slots along the side to permit sand to slide down a decline and onto the ground. The design would prevent sand from being blown up the incline. Gravity will pull it back down from airborne sand in a dust storm. Also, a road sweeper can push sand into the side slots.
I saw a program how by trial and error over many years, China developed the above method of preventing soil erosion. The length of the square had to be just right. Too big and it will be blown away. Too small and it will be too much work. Imagine all these grass had to be manually planted on both sides of the road all along the hundreds and hundreds of miles or the road will get buried in sand. A LOT OF WORK !!!
The first pic look like its from the monument valley AZ, CO, UT and NM border. The area known as four corners. It's beautiful.
Four corners?Yes, that reminds me of Monument Valley in the "four corners".
The resemblance is uncanny.
I know there is such a place by watching the movie Forrest Gump and Thelma and Louise.
