That is the problem with Pakistani industrial design and produced goods which as someone says of "victorian" era super wight massive size and energy guzzler meant to last for 14th generation. For example Big Industrial Fans Pakistan used to produce and export to rest of the world. The Pakistani taste also remain same at least of those of neo "riches". World has moved on to light wight, functional, cheaper to produce and use as well energy saving goods. So no wonder Pakistan has lost it exports markets for most of its industrial goods.

Ikea furniture is made of wood like cabinets, bed frames and sofas. but almost all of their furniture is made of chip board or plywood. These two materials are easily available in Pakistan. The quality of this furniture is top quality, not something many in Pakistan would have seen from local producers.

Not just furniture, Ikea also has good quality (by Pakistan standards, premium quality) appliances, table ware and other home stuff like pillows, bedsheets, towels, curtains etc. I have seen so many of their towels and bedsheets made in Pakistan here. I have to say, Pakistani product at Ikea is at lower end of prices and its quality is not that great to what Ikea has from Bangladesh, Vietnam or Egypt.

So once Ikea comes to Pakistan, it will have abundant supply of finished products and raw materials to sell at their outlets. These mass market brands buy at bulk and Ikea entry in Pakistan will help local supply chains and consumers with good quality product of international standard.

Ikea here is considered a mid price, affordable furniture. In Pakistan, it will be considered high end.

As for wood furniture, it is available at high end retailers like Pier1. Almost all of it is made in Vietnam and is 3 to 5 times more expensive than Ikea.

.
Ikea sources around 300 m € worth of furniture from India every year. So no worries , the money will remain in the indian sub continent , wont go out. Also around 50000 Indians get direct employment, so our local economy is getting benefited.
So Pakistanis can buy ikea furniture without any doubts.

.
Foreign direct investments are never bad. Let them come. In the very least, hundreds of Pakistanis will find job opportunities. This can never be bad.

. .
Ikea will generate alot of economic activity. I know when my local Ikea opened some years ago and its busy from opening to closure.

.
Isn't "Swedish" Ikea manufacturing outsourced to Pakistan's ally China? Could just buy furniture made by a Chinese company and cut out the Swedish Middleman and the name.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani ambassador to Germany, Dr Mohammad Faisal, said on Tuesday he had met Dieter Mettke from the multinational IKEA conglomerate who was en route to Pakistan to start IKEA operations there.
IKEA is a multinational conglomerate that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories. Founded in Sweden in 1943 by 17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad, IKEA is one of the world's largest furniture retailer since 2008.
“Met Dieter Mettke @IKEA_Deutchland. He is going to #Pakistan to be Incharge of #ikea operations,” Ambassador Faisal said on Twitter. “We look forward to #ikea opening up stores in major cities of #Pakistan.”

IKEA started its Asia push in the early 2000s and opened its first store in India in 2018.
The group has already taken its huge out-of-town stores packed with modern Scandinavian style to more than two dozen markets, with the product and experience instantly recognizable across them all.
In developed markets, IKEA is positioned as a low-priced mass-market brand, but in emerging markets where low prices are the norm, it targets a growing middle class that aspires to international lifestyle products.
Good news. Swedish Giant coming to Pakistan

great news, now they can sell there garbage in pakistan also------

Thank God, this might help finally teach upper class Pakistanis the basics of modern/contemporary interior design which they haven't quite grasped yet.

I guess u have no idea about Pakistan furniture. I have been associated with furniture business as a side business. I can tell u that Pakistan produces one of the best furniture in the world. We exported furniture to italy, ireland and otjer European countries. The italians imported from Pakistan and then gave it their own name as italian furniture. Due to stupid corrupt govts, this industry is destroyed and we no longer export any furniture. In tehkal Peshawar, the hand work and other work are one of the best in the world and also cheaper.

The only thing in furniture industry Pakistan can export is 200 year old Victorian style furniture which requires labor skills and Pakistan is really good at that no question. But its about time Pakistan move out of this gora raj era lifestyle and enter modern century. Why cant Pakistan move away from British empire introduced furniture and adopt modern design furniture? THis is the reason why Pakistani motor industry sucks and are almost 30 year behind because the locals can be satisified with sub standard items and dont really have a higher bench mark. Thats why Pakistan as a society is a failure because they dont have a aim to achieve. They are just satisfied with peanuts Gora masters left.

As long as Ikea can incorporate solid wood into their furniture line only then it will succeed in Pakistan because Pakistanis are quite jungli unlike well-mannered western people. lol

Good point, but Pakistani furniture industry is also controlled by mafias who have hired patwaris to design Pakistani furniture with stupid b1tch Victorian era furniture designs.

Pakistani furniture designs are way better than what IKEA offers. IKEA ok for mid-tier furniture. The quality of majority of furniture is a B or B-

Its the way u think. The furniture that u call gora design is actually the most expensive in the world and requires artistic talent. If someone can make that complicated designs then modern plain designs are nothing. And who told u modern designs are not made? We used to sell whine cellars made of wood, modern couches and beds. It all depends on demand of customer. My point is here we can make kashmiri, swati and victorian designs, the most complicated and difficult to make, we can also make modern easy ones. We just need a good policy and exposure so we can export it.

Everyone just loves to buy expensive but nasty, shi.tty quality Ikea furniture.
