ISLAMABAD: Pakistani ambassador to Germany, Dr Mohammad Faisal, said on Tuesday he had met Dieter Mettke from the multinational IKEA conglomerate who was en route to Pakistan to start IKEA operations there.
IKEA is a multinational conglomerate that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories. Founded in Sweden in 1943 by 17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad, IKEA is one of the world's largest furniture retailer since 2008.
“Met Dieter Mettke @IKEA_Deutchland. He is going to #Pakistan to be Incharge of #ikea operations,” Ambassador Faisal said on Twitter. “We look forward to #ikea opening up stores in major cities of #Pakistan.”
IKEA started its Asia push in the early 2000s and opened its first store in India in 2018.
The group has already taken its huge out-of-town stores packed with modern Scandinavian style to more than two dozen markets, with the product and experience instantly recognizable across them all.
In developed markets, IKEA is positioned as a low-priced mass-market brand, but in emerging markets where low prices are the norm, it targets a growing middle class that aspires to international lifestyle products.

I guess u have no idea about Pakistan furniture. I have been associated with furniture business as a side business. I can tell u that Pakistan produces one of the best furniture in the world. We exported furniture to italy, ireland and otjer European countries. The italians imported from Pakistan and then gave it their own name as italian furniture. Due to stupid corrupt govts, this industry is destroyed and we no longer export any furniture. In tehkal Peshawar, the hand work and other work are one of the best in the world and also cheaper.
As someone whose father make furniture,
Mera baap tu ghar se nikal de ga agar IKEA se Table le kr aya tu.
Good point, but Pakistani furniture industry is also controlled by mafias who have hired patwaris to design Pakistani furniture with stupid b1tch Victorian era furniture designs.Isn't "Swedish" Ikea manufacturing outsourced to Pakistan's ally China? Could just buy furniture made by a Chinese company and cut out the Swedish Middleman and the name.
The only thing in furniture industry Pakistan can export is 200 year old Victorian style furniture which requires labor skills and Pakistan is really good at that no question. But its about time Pakistan move out of this gora raj era lifestyle and enter modern century. Why cant Pakistan move away from British empire introduced furniture and adopt modern design furniture? THis is the reason why Pakistani motor industry sucks and are almost 30 year behind because the locals can be satisified with sub standard items and dont really have a higher bench mark. Thats why Pakistan as a society is a failure because they dont have a aim to achieve. They are just satisfied with peanuts Gora masters left.
As long as Ikea can incorporate solid wood into their furniture line only then it will succeed in Pakistan because Pakistanis are quite jungli unlike well-mannered western people. lol
