There is an age old rivalry with between Sweden and Russia.I mean , you are absolutely not interested in the Russian people, I learned only from this forum that there is a conflict with Sweden ^^
It didn't start there, but the Russian attack on Sweden in the beginning of the Great Nordic War 1700,
Is a highlight in bad relations.
The invasion of Finland (which was a native part of Sweden) by Russia 1808 is another.
This resulted in a 100 year+ occupation of Finland.
Finland managed to free themselves during the Russian Revolution after a bloody civil war,
but the Soviet Union again tried to occupy Finland in the beginning of WW2.
The initial onslaught was beaten back by the Finns, with a few thousand Swedish volunteers as help,
but then the Soviet Union collected massive resources, and broke through the Finnish defenses.
The "peace" awarded the Soviet Union Karelia, where practically no Russians lived.
During the Cold War, the Soviet Union invaded Hungary, and Czechoslovakia.
They also sent agents pretending to sell paintings to ALL pilots in the Swedish Air Force,
obviously planning to assassinate them in the beginning of a conflict.
Now Russia invaded Georgia and Crimea and sent lots of equipment and men to bolster
East Ukrainan rebels.
I do not criticize behaviour in Chechnya , since the stupid inhabitants there first managed
to get their freedom, and they used that freedom to attack Russia.
They got what they deserved.
Right now we see that Russian propaganda attacks Sweden with outrageous claims
and interferes in our internal affairs, like whether we join NATO or not.
We also see that the Russia leadership is becoming more and more autocratic.
If Swedes are to approve of Russia, we need to see a change in the behavioural pattern.
