What's new

Suzuki doesn't see any reason why they should discontinue producing the Mehran in Pakistan

I disagree, in the era we're in the car model is from 1980's/90's. I'd go for saying it's a fact.

But how can one claim that Pakistanis deserve better than what they have been allowed by the government?

MQM has ruled Sindh, the killings were done by the MQM gov, were they justified? And please don't say this is off topic.

. . . .
Any proof of this allegation?

But there is the New Auto Policy, is there not?

Buying a car is a voluntary activity and the car chosen is by the people's choice.

It is open capitalist market competition, government regulations and standards that promote manufacturers to ensure safety is followed. Those regulations are backed by litigation and a consumer protection legislation and legal system.

True for any civilized developed nation... in pakistan we have the law of the jungle.

Then why is it that the denizens of said jungle that is neither civilized nor developed, according to you, expecting to be treated any better? :D

It is their very practicality that leads them to a buy a cheap and reliable car that gets the job done, with good aftermarket support. Mehru is the CG125 of cars in Pakistan.

It's not cheap versus the tin box death trap you get....

. .
That may be your opinion, but it does fill the needs of the people who willingly buy it.

It's because there are no options available to the masses. If you get into an accident in a Mehran and lose your children because it didn't come with basic things like rear seat belt or airbags... do Pakistani population have the option to take Suzuki to court for an easy Swift justice?... no! Government is failing the consumer. Being indifferent isn't going to solve the issue.

What do you drive?

Does the law require rear seat belts or airbags in Pakistan? A manufacturer only has to meet the legal requirements in force for the production year. Does the buyer know that the car they have chosen has no such equipment and they still choose to buy it? It is their choice and thus their responsibility for the consequences.

What do you drive?

Irrelevant to this thread, Sir.

What you drive is valid... are being a hypocrite wishing others to drive a lesser car than you (safety wise)

Regulations ensure safety and environmental requirements are met for the benefit of the general population. The average civilian does not have the singular capacity to demand that. This is especially true in a poor country with a high percentage of illiteracy like pakistan. It is the few informed members of society who have to push for policies that have a positive impact for all citizens.

It all depends how you view your responsibility

I am not wishing for anyone to drive anything lesser, or greater. Everyone is free to drive whatever they can choose and afford. Their choice.

Sure, it is the right of the people to demand from their government the protections they feel they need. So where is the popular demand for safer cars in Pakistan? Suzuki still sells every Mehru they make.

It all depends how you view your responsibility

The responsibility to buy a particular car rests with the buyer.

If you have a an uneducated population, it is your moral or professional duty to ask for controls and regulations that addresses those risks. In Pakistan's case it may be as obvious as car safety... in more advanced more complex cases it may have to do with chemicals in an industrial process that you or me are unaware of those hazards. That is why we have regulations, to address those concerns for the benefit for the broader population.

I hope you understand that my argument is the basic cornerstone of most developed nations visa-vis consumer and public protection. Why do you not want the same for Pakistan?

Normally hazardous cars are banned by country's Safty board or consumer watch guards , and that is what needs to happen this below standard product has to be removed from streets becasue it is a coffin if accidents happen
