Suzuki doesn't see any reason why they should discontinue producing the Mehran in Pakistan

I will refer back to your comment about Pakistan having the law of the jungle. Wanting civilized protections in such an environment just will not work, as will demanding consumer protection rights in a highly constrained economic environment such as the one existing in Pakistan.

Such developments must be stepwise and gradual in the same consistent direction to bear fruit over decades. The best way is to open up the market to fair competition, as you have said, but the costs associated with such a bold step are simply beyond the government to bear, as I have pointed out.

My argument has been on a personal level: do you wish the betterment of others or do you not?

It is better to concentrate on the issue rather than the person, as a matter of principled debate.

Issues are addressed by changing the mindset if the one. Be the change you want to see.

Changing mindsets is not enough without understanding all the complexities associated with such multi-factorial issues. One has to understand the issues first.

It is the issue that is being addressed head on:
It is open capitalist market competition, government regulations and standards that promote manufacturers to ensure safety is followed. Those regulations are backed by litigation and a consumer protection legislation and legal system.

Suzuki should be held liable for gross negligence.

Only if you can show that Pakistan has the open capitalist competition and safety regulations backed by a legal system necessary to hold Suzuki liable.

It doesn't. As it doesn't about many other things. Does it stop you from voicing you concern about other issues or are you content with how things are?

Regulations ensure safety and environmental requirements are met for the benefit of the general population. The average civilian does not have the singular capacity to demand that. This is especially true in a poor country with a high percentage of illiteracy like pakistan. It is the few informed members of society who have to push for policies that have a positive impact for all citizens.

It all depends how you view your responsibility. If the general good for others isn't a driver for you then I think it is futile to argue with you just as you think the argument on behalf of the general population is futile.

Voice all the concern you want Sir. My argument still stands.

Do you think corrupt politicians should be held accountable? Even in a system that is broken and general population is indifferent. Should we still continue to stand for and voice our opinion for what is correct?

This thread is about the Suzuki Mehran, and their announcement to continue building it as long as people keep buying in the Pakistani market. Seems pretty correct.

If you wish to go off topic, it is up to you. I will not risk being sanctioned for a PDF rules violation.

It is directly connected... it is due to government corruption and negligence that we have "Suzukis" in pakistan .

So do you voice your concern about corrupt politicians on this forum or no?

Suzuki was introduced in Pakistan in the early 80s, and it was indeed a contemporary vehicle at that time. The fact that its modernization did not keep up with international developments is directly related to the overall stagnation of Pakistan's economy and its fossilized policies forced upon it by self-imposed constraints.

For the manufacturers, as long as they are able to sell the cars they build as allowed under the prevailing rules that are relevant to the PDM, they will continue to do so, as the title of the thread clearly states. Not just Suzuki, but Toyota and Honda as well.

Each airbag adds hundreds of dollars to the cost of any car (posted earlier). Adding safety adds cost, which the local market cannot bear without fundamental changes, which will remain beyond the ability the of the government to bring about.
