What's new

Suzuki doesn't see any reason why they should discontinue producing the Mehran in Pakistan

Why does it have to be brand new? Take 700,000 and walk along any series of dealers for many options. Or do an online search.
The options are between Japan's Alto, Pakistan's Alto, Mehran and Cultus.
Related: I can get a 6 year old Camry variant in the UK for the same price (Called: Toyota Avensis), however after research for 800,000Rs you can't get much (which is considered decent) in the used market.

Please define "decent" as it applies to your expectations in this regard.
Something that's not a death trap, i.e has at least 6 airbags, power steering, ABS, traction control, cruse control (it's 2017), long lasting, comfortable (no cheap feeling plastics or fabrics), AC/Heating.

What's your definition of decent?

We are talking about the Pakistani domestic market, right? :D

LOL, applying your definition of "decent" will leave cars only for the very rich in Pakistan. That is the whole point and problem!

What's your definition of decent?

My definition is irrelevant here. You chose the term in the post above, not me.

No, your talking about the availability of car currently with current specs. Look around the world, you'll find decent cars around about the same price mark with at least 60% of the features that I've quoted.

Alright, however can you justify 0 change in the model for over two decades?

No Sir. We are talking about the Pakistani domestic market, nothing else. The rest of the world is simply not a valid comparison.

Please read the OP: "it is a popular car and has a huge demand. It is economical and parts are easily available.” According to him, the model sells 4,000 units a month and both the Mehran and Cultus have a great resale and maintenance value. Problem? :D

Then that's the reason Pakistan has been left behind. Not keeping up with the market. That's our problem.

Since when has keeping up with the world market ever been a goal for Pakistan?

Yes, it has not changed anything within the last 2 decades, let me remind you of your beautiful interior:

2017 Baby, enjoy the ride...

We would be much further if we did... We still don't want to keep up with the market because we defend Mehran's being sold at 800,000 for a model that has had 0 change in the last 20 years.

Well, the Pakistani consumers are still buying every one of these cars that Suzuki makes.

Scarcity and choices; car brands in Pakistan are scarce and therefor we have less choices. Economically we call it a "cartel", Japan's Honda, Toyota and Suzuki operating and forming alliances.
Pakistani's don't want Mahran by choice however there's no other brands operating for that sale price, creating a monopoly resulting in 0 innovation.
And why one one is operating? Because the gov refuses to hand production licences over.
Micro-Economics first chapter.

What a comfortable and cozy system! :D

Pakistan is not the only country in the world with such an arrangement, by the way.

You talk like some rigid bureaucrat. Why do you think Pakistanis dont deserve a better deal when it comes to automobiles?

A car like Cultus which sells in a British market as Celerio for Pk Rs 1 million after conversion, sells for Rs 1.4 million in Pakistan. The British Celerio model is imported from Thailand.

Same is for Toyota and Honda. They sell in Pakistan at same price that they ask in US/Canada but their quality is not a fraction of what you get here.

In simple principle of justice. Pakistanis deserve better. They are not getting worth of their money.

Car buying is not a voluntary choice. Its a need in the modern world.
