Superstorm Sandy: US rejects Hafiz Saeed's offer of aid

@karan...your 10000th thank from me.....now u can start a thread like Imran bhai titled - If u can do 20k, i can do 10k :D

No disagreement here... However, he is suspected of 26/11 and hence the bounty on evidence leading to his arrest and conviction..

yup, you said it...he is suspected, and has been suspected since the very second the whole drama took place. However suspicion alone does not constitute a crime - especially in the absence of evidence

i dont know about your legal procedures or how you do them in india -- but as per our laws, he can't be imprisoned and he certainly wont be handed over just b/c you or hillary clinton make such ludicrous request.

However for a terrorist designation, there is no issue of suspicion. He is a designated terrorist as per United Nations and his organization JuD is listed as a terror outfit.. Again, no confusion there...

well the US and the UN need to share notes and be on the same page, b/c according to Mark Toner (State Dept. spokesperson) they have no evidence that could lead to his conviction

they are asking for someone to provide evidence in exchange for $10,000,000, essentially....

There is nothing wrong with it.. Unless he is convicted, the right term to be used is "suspected".
only in india innocents get convicted without even solid evidence in fake encounters.Hafiz saeed already got released from court for Pak gov couldnot prove its allegations.

Ah! Personal attacks , incompetence ...etc etc.. ;)
nah just introducing pakistanis to pdf indians' reality.

Is that an endorsement of Pakistans point of view?- innocence until proved guilty?-

Whatever the Geneva conventions is not applicable to Al-Qaeda or its affliates as per the US court rulings. So there is no question of innocence until proven guilty for Hafiz.

If you followed Khalid Sheikh Mohammed trial, he was wanted by US for 9/11 and Bali Bombings and handed over by Pakistan in 2003 who was taken to GITMO and later was charged for murder in 2008 by a US military court. So Hahiz will be provided the same treatement. Taken to GITMO and will be interrogated and will stand trial for Mumbai murder.

I dont think the issue here is handing over of HS to India or USA..

UN has designated him as a terrorist as general and not specific to an incident. Which means UN member states have to follow the designated protocol on him. For example, he can not travel outside Pakistan, or his explicit assets are frozen and he can not have financial dealings with International markets/players in his name.. etc etc..

OTOH, USA has put out a bounty for evidence showing his involvement in 26/11 drama (as you put it). So there is no disconnect between UN and USA understanding, except probably in your Pakistani brain :)

pakistan recieves more damages from the war then the aid as a compensation

the damage to our economy is priceless

coming to your real answer then, i say pakistan is the most charitable nation in the world, when it comes to donations we give it generously, even a poor pakistani will open his heart to help others in misery and help with what ever his limitations

Pakistan is the aid receiving nation in the world, SA, US and UK being your primay aid provider from day one followed by everyone else who's been able to, nowadays even Iran gives u aid Japan has been doing it from a long time, there's billions of aid that poured into Pakistan from day one. The reason its not visible on the ground is because of corruption and army taking the bulk of it so its actually funny when Pakistan offers aid to anyone.

Do you really want me to bring up Pakistan's record on the enforced disappearances in Balochistan.. ?? I understand there was a reference to that in UNSC today also :D... But anyway, as usual you are going off topic...

KSM was not as important and close to ghq as hafiz saeed is.moreover hafiz saeed is just a leverage for usa to keep india happy and get concessions from PA.USA is/was never serious about hafiz saeed hence that nautanki of bounty. usa will not trouble HS if he keeps himself strictly to kashmir and india. The day HS affecting usa interests in pakistan(As DPC was doing) they gonna take him out but its only for their interests not for india.

Only in Pakistan even hardcore terrorists are not convicted in courts.75% of terror trails ends in acquittal of suspected terrorists.

Superstorm Sandy: US rejects Hafiz Saeed's offer of aid | NDTV.com

Lahore: The US, which is battling the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, has rejected an offer of help from Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, the man believed to be the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

"We respect the Islamic tradition of help to the needy, but we can't take Hafiz Saeed's offer seriously...Saaed is wanted for suspected involvement in the Mumbai attacks, which killed 166. JuD is a UN&US-designated terrorist org," The US Embassy in Islamabad tweeted today.

Saeed, who heads the Jaamat-ud-Dawa or JuD, believed to be a front for the deadly terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), carries a USD 10 million bounty for information leading to his arrest. He is one of India's most wanted men but roams free in Pakistan. He had said yesterday that his organisation was ready to help Americans affected by the Superstorm Sandy, which has left 45 people dead and more than eight million homeless.

"We are ready to send food items, medicines and doctors to the US for the people affected by the storm," Saeed had said, adding that though the US had put a bounty on his head, it was the duty of Muslims to help fellow human beings, irrespective of their faith, during a natural catastrophe. "It is our Islamic duty and the government of Pakistan should allow us to provide relief goods to the affected people in the US," Saeed said.

Pakistan has so far refused to take action against Saeed on the basis of material provided by India about his alleged role in masterminding the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The US too has said that the assault on Mumbai was carried out by LeT operatives who were trained, financed and controlled by Pakistan-based elements.

Saeed was placed under house arrest for less than six months after the Mumbai attacks, largely due to pressure from the world community.

He was freed in 2009 on the orders of the Lahore High Court.

Though the LeT was banned by the regime of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, the Pakistan government has not formally outlawed the JuD.

The organisation now carries out its activities through the Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation, which was created in the wake of the Mumbai attacks

It is wrong to have this Indian news source allege that Pakistan has refused to take action, Pakistan took action when it prosecuted, India which holds all the evidence refused to cooperate and thats why we didn't get a conviction despite our best efforts.

I wonder if he stands for humanity than what prompted him to kill 166 innocent human beings, weren't they humans??

I have clearly stated in my postings in another thread that for geopolitical reasons, US will not act unless he becomes more than pinprick for US.

But at somepoint, this organization will become a threat to US and the world and even Pakistan. A 2 lakh member organization - will it just stop with Kashmir or India?
