Sultan of Brunei bans Christmas 'because it could damage faith of Muslims'

@Indos

I was pleasantly surprised that Brunei is not part of the Saudi alliance while sad that Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Maldives are. As expected Indonesia is not part of the alliance.

In fact Gurkhas were even deployed by the British Army to fight and neutralize Indonesian paramilitary forces during the Konfrontasi. They (Gurkhas) have had a presence in Borneo ever since the British Army's counteroffensive to reclaim Borneo from the Imperial Japanese Army back in 1945.

Why do some Jews buy Xmas trees and even more participate in Valentines Day? To enjoy the holiday spirit, of course. This is what the Sultan has banned. He has become the Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
So how does it become a favour for a Muslim country? We know you celebrate that but you do not celebrate Eids or any other Islamic festivals. He has not banned but only the public festivity which I personally think was needless but it is his country, he can do that.

But if you read, basically they allow but he just banned the public festivity...though in my personal opinion it was needless but still it should not blown out of proportions. Even in Pakistan, we think banning many Islamic religious practices publicly due to public nuisance.

is muharram nonsense banned ?

is muharram nonsense banned ?
I think use of loud speakers and doing sectarian speeches has been banned. In my personal opinion the shia's celebration of Muharram should be confined to their imam-bargahs and homes, not on road for security, traffic and public nuisance reason and many other religious, political and social events that disturb the public life. In Pakistan, sometimes people block roads even for marriages which is disgusting if it is true. But I am not sure if it has been banned or not.

They ban celebrating new year also, or just xmas ?

How can you not? Bro, they're a major oil producing country, lol!
Never knew they produced oil either, just learned another new fact lol. When it comes to Islam in South East Asia, my knowledge is lacking.

I celebrate xmas in the sense of sending cards/gifts to my Christian friends , to churches I have built ties with and to have a family gathering. I would by default celebrate the birth of Christ, but the 25th is not his day of birth.
All in all, I'd probably not be welcome in Brunei. :woot:

What can Brunei possibly contribute , if her entire population is about 700,000? Do you even know that the Royal Bruneian Army has in its employ Nepalese Gurkhas?

2nd Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles; formed by renaming the 1st Bn, 7th Duke of Edinburgh's Own Gurkha Rifles.

Well NOT everyone who joins a coalition needs to contribute the numbers. Look no further than the coalition of the willing during the Iraq war.

We have have to remember that Xmas was originally based on a celebration that marks the Winter Solstice, and the Xmas was created to "Christianize" that pagan celebration.

Other than that, it is probably made to make the year end "merrier" instead of being boring.
