but they dont have so called MKIs lol. ISI planted a kill switch dont believe me ask ur media and they will swear thats exactly what happened
Even ISI planted a bug in martian embassy on moon titan and with their Lal topi leader will claim both, the plant and satellite.. Kill switches in IAF jets... Gimme a break...

One question @sancho @Oscar is this Fighter aircraft salvageable??

some of the Su30MKI in IAF fleet is getting older, very normal see it crash. after so many years, you guys still can't produce a decent engine, just blame HAL. You can ask Russian provide AL41 engine for MKI. A man's home is his castle. you shall develop your own heavy class fighter and engines.

we have a kill switch for your modi as well dont believe me ask ur media hehe

if MKI need to stay ground a whole weak for engine overhaul, you can image the sortie available in the war time is very low. IAF has very strong fighters, but it's combat ability is questionable. be it maintenance and reliability of the equipment. I think PAF knows it.

An unfortunate accident, hopefully one that can be prevented in the future. Crashes happen, no one or place is immune and no system is would it failures at some point. May the pilots continue to find good fortune in their future and may all personal of the IAF remain safe. I hope that the crash was not a result of negligence or poor maintenance and that the causes will be mitigated in the future.

the hot and humid weather in India make it quite difficult to maintain engines, especially one made by a country without tropical area.

Well MKIs are clocking 250 flight hours every year( more than any fighter in India) so dispite having troubles in engines of some batches, they are doing good is all I can say. And I am sure IAF is doing required rectification needed for those engines.

At the mean time, I still think MKI is a better choice for iAF than Rafale. at one Rafale, you can buy two MKI. when a Rafale crashes, 100 million USD gone. this kind of power mastered through buying from the shelves by IAF is not affordable in the long run.

even as rich as India government.

IAF is fragile and vulnerable although it arms to teeths, that's my two cents.

The idea is correct.. Progress is very slow on Indian part.. Developing a fighter jet and developing a engine are two different things.. Chinese aviation industry has very well known this.. Although, china has developed good number of designs and even they might prove themselves excellently on aerodynamic and electronic and sensor fusion part, one thing they are really lagging is the engines.. WS 10, 12, 13 have been developed or under development (in some cases).. The dry and wet thrust they have produced are excellent but the engine lifespan is very less.. and being a senior member you know very well that even mighty china lacking credible Metallurgy technique to produce high quality turbofan blades.. Apart from western engines, even the Russian engines have issues with longevity...
And India offcource is late entry compare to China in this field.. so the time require to catch up with existing bigboys would be pretty much on higher side (I am optimistic that India would break in to big boys club in aerospace).. Recently single crystal blade technique advances were made by both China and India.. though China is ahead, we Indians are find our way out..

But nevertheless, what you have said is correct... We need to find our way out in this field... Self reliance is the only way put.. But that too by innovation rather than stealing... so that in future we should not get stucked at a certain juncture... You know what I mean....

never give up Kaveri engines although it's not good enough. China is a motivation for India just like what USA means for us,

you may try your best to make progress to catch up until time is up. it's very tough for China to deal with UsAAF now at given ability, we have no choice but bucks down and working hard.

That's right. China is considered a motivation for Indians atleast in development and innovation regardless of media wars.
Yes Kaveri will be developed further or some new upgraded variant based on it but it won't be linked to our future aircraft projects and rather would be developed independtly( learnt from mistakes we did during LCA project when whole projected got delayed by many years becoz of kaveri engine).

the engines should be developed ahead of compatible fighters. The WS 15 engine is still lagging behind J20, we Chinese lack of experience as well in engine field. we will make it work before year 2016.

fighter engine development is very difficult, far beyond our expectation. the WS10 engine was supposed to serve J10A, but now it only catches up J10 b after 10 years test.

we will be self sufficient on fighter engines before year 2025, still long time to go.
