Submarine base to be built with Tk 10,300 crore.

Why so expensive? Why taking so long?
Give to Vietnam, we will build half of the cost, in half of the time.

Lot more involved than just building infrastructure. BN engineers will get real time training on how to build such a base. BTW this base also includes docks and slipways for submarine maintainance and facilities for training.

.
A submarine base needs extensive works something like dry docks as well for maintenance works.

CDDL and KSY can do that part.

How many submarines are our target? Do you know that?

officially 6 by 2030, unreliable source suggest 8-12 (with/without midget sub)

I have read the news. Re-read it. It says that the Pyra one is a naval base with berthing arrangement for the submarines. Pyra is not an exclusive submarine base like the Cox's Bazaar one. Cox's Bazar Base will cost about $1.23 billion. Chittagong is also not a submarine base, it is a temporary berthing facility like the Pyra one.

The submarines to be acquired newly should be based in other places so that a single aerial/missile attack does not destroy all. It is a defence forum. People should understand this small thing that the airforce bases are also built at scattered points. The best locations are those behind/under the mountain near the sea. For example, the venue of Chittagong Marine Academy. An attack destroys the mountain but not the submarines.

Few hill tracts won't stop any missile artillery attack. And Chittagong marine Academy is not even that close to mountain. Chittagong marine Academy is for people who want to work in merchant ship. Did you try to mean Bangladesh Naval Academy? That's not close to mountain either. And the base construction will take 10 years to be completed. It's obvious BN will have at least full MRSAM coverage by that time. Also the submarine base will be underground. But why are you posting random pictures?

Sorry, I checked the source but I could not be sure. So, I have deleted two of the photographs. However, my point is a submarine base should be built behind hills if available near the sea. And not all the submarines should be based in one single point, among other points.

There's no such area near the sea in BD if i am not wrong. And let them build this one first.

Sounds expensive too me though. We have the same stuffs: submarine base, training base, depot, logistics, maintenance and repair.

Not only submarines, but also destroyers, frigates, gunships, landing crafts.

And a plus: the base can host a aircraft carrier up to 110,000 tons. Should Vietnam decide to have aircraft carriers, the Camranh base is ready :-)

We had histories with low budget low quality of work and at the end govt has to bear all the blames for it. Now a days govt is very generous in budget but demanding higher quality. Lets wait for the details. It looks like a govt to govt job.

This is very good. We do not doubt about Vietnam's capability to build such base. But I think, this project is a part of a long term understanding with China. They have already supplied Submarine to us, build some Submarine berthing facilities. Bangladesh may procure future Submarine also from China. So there is perhaps some kind of strategic consideration behind giving this project to China. Therefore, perhaps there is no scope to involve any other country even if that means building with higher costs.

The chinese give you money for this base?
If yes, they earn interests on the loan. that project is 100 percent overpriced, with most workers, most materials coming from China.

It’s cheaper if BD takes loans from the international bond markets, organizes a bidding competition, then takes the best bidder.

As said, I am pretty sure, VN can build it for half of the cost, half of the price. Not to forget, chinese clowns may bet, they can take the base, if you can not pay back the loan.

Submarine base to be built with Tk 10,300cr
Shakhawat Hossain | Published: 00:22, May 21,2019

The construction cost of the proposed full-fledged and permanent base for keeping and operating submarines has been estimated at Tk 10,300 crore, officials said.

Chinese state-owned company PTI is scheduled to begin the construction of the base in Cox’s Bazar in the current fiscal year.

The company has been appointed for the job through a government-to-government negotiation between Bangladesh and China.

The construction of the permanent base, which would have facilities like wharfs, barracks, an ammunitions depot, repairing arrangements and training provisions, is expected to be completed in 10 years by the fiscal year 2027-28, said the officials.

A special allocation of Tk 54 crore would be required within the outgoing fiscal year for payment of the consultancy fees for the project to be implemented by the Bangladesh Navy.
Inter-Services Public Relations director Lieutenant Colonel Md Abdullah Ibn Zaid on Saturday told New Age that they did not know anything about the construction of the base.
‘We will have to know it from the Navy,’ he said.

The Navy received the delivery of two submarines from China in 2016-17, which it is operating now from a makeshift base in the same district.

Named as Nobojatra and Joyjatra, the submarines were procured under a G-to-G contract from China in 2013 at a reported cost of US$ 193 million after both submarines went through extensive refitting and modernisation.

The Navy had been persuading the government to build a permanent base since the commissioning of the Ming-class submarines in the Bay of Bengal.

The government is also founding a new naval base at Rabnabad in Patuakhali that will have submarine berthing and operation facilities to ensure security of the Payra Sea Port.
The implementation of the naval base project, BNS Sher-e-Bangla Patuakhali, was set to start from June 2018 to be completed in June 2021 at an estimated cost of Tk 1,081.50 crore.

The entire fund is to come from the state coffer.

At present, there are three naval bases in the country.

Good effort.

it;s not easy to build shit on basically silt and water...
this will require some extensive engineering like those of the Uboat pens of the germans in france

anyways... future sub contracts definitely going to china...

No, It's totally funded by govt.

that project is 100 percent overpriced, with most workers, most materials coming from China.

This could be the reason. We don't have any expertise here.

The other dude said exactly the same thing and you are disagreeing with him?

This 100% guarantees that the next-gen submarines will come from China.

This makes sense as Myanmar is overkill for subs and BN needs to be ready to hunt IN in the Bay of Bengal.:guns:

bangladesh will never be a naval power. your coastline is too short

No one is talking Blue Water navy here.

But relative to her neighbors, yea a significant bump in capability is certainly possible.

Also your statement is erroneous.

If looking anaglously to air power, there are Israel and Singapore.

Definitely capable air arms with limited land and air space.

BN has no ambitions to be anything more than capable of taking on IN in the Bay of Bengal.

The current plans for 8 next-gen frigates and the speculated 6 modern submarines are enough to keep BD's sea lanes open in case IN tries any kind of blockade.

BN does not see MN as any kind of threat to it. Already it is far more powerful than MN and by 2030 the idea of comparing the two Navies will seem ridiculous.

It just wants enough power to deter IN from ever thinking it can blockade BD in Bay of Bengal.

Keep in mind your submarines are vulnerable at their naval bases
for that matter for all countries
