Stratfor: Turkey to emerge as major regional power in the next decade

I understand the position they are in, but i don't agree that Turkey should show sympathy towards them. Iranian mullahs dont looks warm towards us because we are a threat to them; 1) we have reasonable links with the west (especially nato), 2) we are Turkics, so Iran fears co-operation and strenghtening of Turks and Azerbaijanis plus south Azerbaijanis in Iran (maybe 30% of Iran?), 3) we in general don't give a dime about it, but Iranian mullahs are hell bent on fueling sunni-shia conflicts.

Because of these reasons, no matter which way Turkey goes, there will be mistrust between us. Yeah, trade will continue of course, but i don't expect warm political and military ties.

Just be happy that these are Iran's bad days. If they had more capability, they probably would create more objects for us. We shouldn't be naive and kid ourselves.
I guess you are right..

But the problem is that, we are neighbors, and we will keep being neighbors of each other for many years.. I mean, probably forever.....

We need to find a logical common ground to finish our hostilities..

Funny thing there is no mention of India and Pakistan, so the status quo continues, we keep fighting each other

Thanks for your detailed post, i know more about Indonesian politics now. With so many parties, it looks like a jungle haha, im sure i am exaggerating though. I wonder (sorry for off topic, maybe we can write in Cay Bahcesi), why do Indonesians hate the liberal economic system? Is a state controlled economy actually more preferred?

About Turkey and the Arab world, i agree.

Yeah, a jungle ha, ha, but this kind of politics will give more opportunities for any one who has ambition in politics to emerge as a new leader by using several options available than just 2 or 3 options (parties). There should be coalition formed in parliament in order to control power effectively, and of course it needs powerful leader to do so, so our politics demands strong person instead of strong party.

We love state owned companies to control some sector in our economy, like big banks here are state owned, as well as in oil and gas/ telecommunication sectors, the biggest ones there are state owned companies, our defense industries are also contained of big state owned companies like PT Dirgantara, PT PAL, PT LEN etc. But overall our economy is applying market system, and as entrepreneur I like less control in other sector of course, but many Indonesian like me believe that strategic sectors should be hold by state owned, because if not, foreign companies will take more stake here.

In early 2000 until 2004, there is a tendency to practice liberal economic system like the way Teacher or Reagan did in British and USA ( selling state owned companies ) in order to improve the economy after collapsing in 1998-2002 due to Asian financial Crisis. The result is the huge lost taken by PDI-P ( Nationalist Secular) in the next election, which was a ruling party at that time. Just by selling the majority government stake in Indosat (before a major state owned telecommunication company) into Singapore (Singtel) make people get angry, If not because of Joko Widodo personal charisma, PDI-P has no chance to win 2014 election due to that mistake.

Stratfor: By the end of this decade, Turkey will emerge as the major regional power, and Turkish-Iranian competition will increase as a result.

A future Turkish-Iranian war is very likely. Also necessary. Iran has to be stopped.

never let military to come once again to intervene any political process like in 90's era.

Erdogan finished military intervention in politics.

On topic : Supporting ISIS will not make anyone a regional power , be sure about that .

we must facilitate a counter revolution in Iran so the barbaric regime of the mullah can be replaced with democracy.

Coalitions always sucked in our country. It just doesn't work here in Turkey..

And AKP is not full islamist. It seeks secularism as well. Not even half of their congresswomen wear headscarf..

Wut?
