Stop criticizing India for being poor: We are too.

Keep trolling Indians. At the end of the day, the only question one has to ask is why the flag of this failed and abominable state keep popping up in India?

Oh wait, it must be the ISI. :cheesy:

The problem is, when Indians think India is in the league of China; & think Pakistan is in the league of Afghanistan; when the fact of the matter is that despite being on the frontline of the WOT, Pakistan still fares better than India on a lot of socioeconomic indicators today.

I have read few post from page and it seems thread has already become a troll fest.
I don't know why people from subcontinent become so defensive when they are called poor.
Lets except this fact in terms of per capita income we are not the wealthiest country's there are reason for that.
In 18th century when we were under colonial rule the Economy of subcontinent was bigger than that of Europe, then what happend.
Many Asian country missed out on industrial revolution in 18th century, even now many developing country's are not industrialized. China which industrialized rapidly in 1980's is bearing the fruits now.
I cannot speak for Pakistan since i don't know much about its economic policy but India missed out on economic growth till early 1990's because of its govt controlled economy and red tapism. Which is called Hindu growth rate(don't know what Hindus have to do with it) as one of the posters pointed out.
Things begin to change when Manmohan Singh implemented his economic reforms.
Now coming to Pakistan i don't think Pakistan has missed out much when compared to India, solve you terrorist problem stop supporting religious fundamentalist reform your economy i don't think why will Pakistan will lack behind.

Yes, we will certainly ‘reset’ our relationship with America because it is stupid to have no relationship or an adversarial relationship with still the most powerful country in history. The question is whether it will be an equitable relationship. Have no doubt about it: so long as we are led by foremen and slave drivers, the reset relationship may be less inequitable than before for a time, but it will be inequitable nevertheless. In any case, bankrupt countries whose economies are aid-driven and dependent on handouts like slaves always are can hardly adopt a strong negotiating position much less take the high ground – except for appearance’s sake. We are great at fighting mock battles and creating storms in teacups but don’t wake up when the time comes.

Most Indians don't realize that in terms of economic parameters India is only slightly above Pakistan and even that's only in the last decade. Up until 1999-2000 Pakistan was ahead of India in per capita income. However if one compares with the rest of the world both countries are dirt poor. Pakistan is still ahead of India in infrastructure as well. It's almost a surreal enjoyment watching my fellow Indians arrogantly advising Pakistan on economic matters. Ignorance is a bliss indeed.

During the first two decades after 47, particularly in the Ayub Khan era Pakistan made rapid economic progress, comparable to South Korea. In contrast, India, with its centrally planned (choked) economy became a textbook example of economic stagnancy. Agreed, West Pakistan's progress was partially based on East Pakistan's revenue, but I don't have a doubt that if Pakistan continued Ayub era policies it could very well be the South Korea of South Asia. What derailed Pakistan was the policies taken during the Bhutto administration. Like Nehru, he was also taught in the fashionable school of socialism of that time and adopted policies that blocked Pakistan's economy.

Excellent post.
