A group of Sri Lankan nationals proceeding to Velankanni on Sunday were stopped midway by the Tiruvarur district police who advised them to return to avoid any problem.

Seventy-five Sri Lankans arrived Tamil Nadu by a Mihin Lanka flight on Sunday evening and immediately left for Velankanni by two omnibuses.

Sources said the buses were stopped on the outskirts of Needamangalam in Tiruvarur district and the tourists were advised to return to prevent any untoward incident. Later in the night, they left for Chennai to head back home.

There was a stiff opposition to the visit of a Sri Lankan MP, Karu Jayasuriya, to Tamil Nadu a few days ago with members of various political parties staging a demonstration at Tirukadaiyur in Nagapattinam district. Protests were held in front of the hotels at Tirukadaiyur and Tiruchi where the MP and his wife stayed.

A few months ago, a convoy of buses carrying Sri Lankan pilgrims were stoned on the city’s outskirts while they were returning from Velankanni.

They were all flown back to the island nation in a special flight from the Tiruchi airport. (The Hindu)

. . . . .
this is silly but expected from the TN government.

.
Yet another batch of Sri Lankan Christian pilgrims are harassed in India.

Shameful. Of course the Indian government won't say a word.

i think it's overreaction , why sri lankan were visiting tamil nadu ? out of 26 Indian state they got only hostile state to visit ?.

well the reaction from Tamil is obvious if you read the history of sri lankan government with Tamils then it doesn't surprise me . srilanka denied a basic human rights to them in back history , so it just bad karma . give them break visit other 25 states, India is huge country

The reaction may be extreme but it is for their safety. God forbid if some untoward incident happened then the balme would come on Indian authorities that they did not do anything.

Expect worse when Modi/BJP come into office.

A Modi/BJP victory will take Indian diplomacy back 50 years.

Pray what has Modi/BJP to do with this. They are not ruling TN. They do not have a single MLA in Tamil Nadu

Hopefully when Modi comes to power he will send back 100% of Pakistani visitors and disallow any more new visitors. That way you get to enjoy your 'pure land' for all of eternity.

it is natural for Srilankans(Sinhalese and Tamils are one people) to be closer to Tamil nadu. the Tamil nationalism propagated and nourished by various Dravidian parties are the reason why, today we see such reports. tamils attacking lankans, tamils attacking kannadiga, malyali etc .

GoI must interfere on TN state syllabus and reverse the brainwashing of "fake theory of Dravidianism and associated Tamil nationalism". today, Tamilnadu is seen as a aggressor against Karnatka or Kerala states. no offense intended.. but frank truth.

tamils do not attack anyone at all! Though I'm not a tamilian, I've lived there for several years and I have yet to see them have a SINGLE thing against any other Indian. In fact I feel quite embarassed when I look at tams who welcome mallus with open arms and praise that culture when within mallus there was a lot of disdian towards tams. If you're talking about issues between sinhalese and tams, that's because you don't know history. There was a time when tamilians were discriminated by sinhalese in sri lanka, including segregation, denial of education in school and jobs. This was not just a societal attitude but govt. policy. No matter how much sri lankans deny this, that was the true root of the rise of LTTE and associated collateral damage.

this is wrong. I don't support discriminatory policies of Sri lankan government or war crimes. but this is not the right way to behave in India.
