The Iron Dome anti-rocket system intercepted a Grad missile fired at Beersheba, southern Israel’s largest city, early Saturday.

Meanwhile, the IDF continued to target terrorists, reportedly killing three Hamas members after firing at their vehicle in the city of Rafah. Palestinian sources said two of those killed were senior members of Izz al-Din al-Qassam, Hamas’ military wing.

Three Beersheba residents were lightly hurt while rushing to local bomb shelters after the anti-rocket siren was activated in the city. Two were taken to Soroka hospital in town for treatment.

Some residents reported that the bomb shelters they headed to were locked, a complaint voiced in the past. Shelters in the city are only opened in times of emergency in line with the IDF’s Home Front Command’s orders.

The IDF’s Spokesman’s Office confirmed that Iron Dome intercepted the Grad rocket fired at Beersheba, marking the fifth time the advanced system shot down an incoming missile.

Later, Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the rocket strike, saying it fired at Beersheba in response for the “occupation’s crimes.”

A short while later, three Grad rockets fired from Gaza exploded in an open area near the southern town of Kirayt Gat. No injuries were reported in the strike.

The anti-rocket siren was activated in the city and local residents were ordered to enter secure rooms.

On a side note: I live in the south and i heard the sirens, i also heard Iron Dome rockets whooshing away in the sky above me, it was amazing, they destroyed the rockets mid-air.
Another brilliant Israeli defense system!

man these Israelis are way too badass... they track the prey and boom! It's like they know exactly who take out and every aspect of what the prey does- is tracked 24/7. Splash 1 , Spalsh 2....pop goes the weasel.

Is the Iron Dome only for rockets or they can be used as ABM also ?

BTW Good Work !

It was made specifically for Gaza, so it was designed to intercept short-range rockets and artillery shells.
We have a different defense system for BM. Arrow 2. And soon, Arrow 3.

I just heard that Hamas had intentionally targeted a school bus.. Man that is so sick. I completely understand that Israel will strike back now, while doing everything possible to avoid civilian casualties.

I also read that if an operation is to be undertaken the Hamas regime is to be removed, which sounds like a sensible but colossal undertaking..
How realistic do you guys think such a plan is?

A lot of casualties because they will undoubtedly hide in populated areas and use people as human shields. But it will happen, it is essential.

You know what will happen ovarel? There will come a time when Turkey will be one of the closest allies of Israel again and not only that but so will Iran, i can only wish to see your face when you watch in horror while your country turns it`s back on Islamic ideologies.

Israel and Arabs working together is decades away but Iran was one of Israels most important allies once. Under the Shah. And so was Turkey.
Sooner rather than later. the Mullahs who advocate hate will be gone and so will AKP. Maybe not this year or the next or the next 10 but we will be close allies once again.

No i`m afraid you are wrong. Trade agreements were made way before AKP and it just naturally prospered.
Since AKP came into power our two countries kept growing apart more and more, our bilateral trade is great, but beyond that everything is bad.
No more military cooperation, no weapon sales, no good diplomatic relations, etc.
