Brotherly state of Turkey helping train the new Somali national army, in particular the Danab "Lighting" commandoes. The agreement between the 2 countries is that the Turkey trains 5,000 troops.

The screenshots below show 1 battalion being trained.

Hi,

Thank you for the post---. It indeed is a memorable moment for Somalia---.

We have never talked before---a belated welcome to the forum---.

Thanks brother. As the newly trained troops make progress, I'll be posting the thread.

Much love to Pakistan :pakistan:

The arms embargo is a much hindrance to the equipping of Somali National Army (SNA). Getting basic equipment requires UN Security Council agreeing to it. Madness!

If Allah wills than Jordan and Somalia can increase defense ties and maybe donate or sell some MRAPs to Somalia for use against terrorists or establish some defense industry in Somalia.

US Airstrike Kills Two Al-Shabaab Members In Somalia
April 20, 2019

US forces conducted an airstrike on Friday, April 19, in Somalia’s Lower Juba region, killing two al-Shabaab militants, the US Africa Command said on Saturday.

Friday’s airstrike was conducted in coordination with Somali forces and was the second by the US forces this week.

The attack was carried out in the vicinity of Jamaame, some 50 kilometers from Kismayo which was a few years ago an al-Shabaab-controlled region.

Africom said its assessment had shown that no civilians were killed on injured in the airstrike.

The force pledged to continue working together with Somali forces to rid the country of terrorists. It also hailed training offered to Somali forces, saying they “are paying dividends.”

“When we train a relatively small unit and that unit then engages with other Somali forces, the experience and professionalism we instilled in the original unit spreads to others, and that’s making a difference,” Africom said.

Excellent, there need to be much more linkages with the African Muslim nations especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, it has been a neglected relationship.

Somalia should get some Chinese drones? Would the UNSC embargo not let them? This could make the job much easier for ground troops and allow precision, and target strikes.

Indeed brother.

We need to link up and defeat the foreign-sponsored terrorist menace that is being used to destabilize our regions and steal our resources.

In Somalia, we have 2 terrorist groups - Al-Qaeda affiliate in East Africa aka Al-Shabaab and Daa'ish aka ISIS; yet, we have arms embargo on the Somali National Army. Basically, you have guys with an AK47 fighting against terrorist groups in civilian clothes, hides behind civilians, and bombs people Indiscriminately.

We're, insha'Allah, on a trajectory to defeating them, but it needs the embargo lifted and the Somali National Army (SNA) receive new military equipment. Turkey and Qatar have so far delivered some battlewagons, including armored vehicles, but to receive helicopters, tanks, howitzers, and naval boats, we need the unjust arms embargo lifted.

The arms embargo restricts everything. The Somali govt has been repeatedly appealing to the UNSC, but so far it hasn't been forthcoming, the latest being this one from yesterday.

Yes I think Pakistan actually can be a good addition to Qatar & Turkey to work with Somalia on anti-terror and exports as well, it will also give them a route across Arabian Sea so a win-win there for both.

Also is the problem generally now just the terrorist like Al-Shabaab or is there any small scale conflict with Ethiopia at the moment?

The Ethiopian front is silent now. However, recently there was a maritime dispute between Somalia and Kenya. The case is pending with the ICC (International Criminal Court) at The Hague. So at this point, we have 3 major enemies: 1) Al-Shabaab; 2) ISIS; 3) Forces of anarchy supported by outside forces. Due to the almost 3 decades of absence of Somali state and governance, the country is fractured and became a prey for many outside forces who are trying to ensure Somalia doesn't come back as unitary state in Horn of Africa.

.
Al Shabaab gained strength after Ethiopia invaded Somalia in 2006. The country will continue to be in chaos as long as it is occupied by foreign forces

With that cooperation rising with Turkey I am sure in near future that some UAV/UCAVs can be gifted to Somalia. Also our base there gains more and more importance so the relationship really starts to look like a strategic one. Maybe some Bayraktar TB2 or Vestel Karayel SU can do a very good job for our Somali brothers or even lease pilots for them.

Always something political there. Somalia was mad at the UAE because of their foreign intrests yet fail to see Turkey acting in their interests. I'm not saying Turkey is inherently bad but I don't support Erdogan whatsoever. With this cooperation Turkey is trying to gain a foothold in the Red Sea, which I think you and I can both agree on.
