Solution for Karachi's Endless and Mindless Violence!

Look, i'am not saying MQM is angel's party, they maybe responsible some how but just tell me how will you guys feel if MQM goes to Lahore & do same thing what ANP & PPP are doing in Karachi. MQM is just defending people of Karachi who vote them, MQM is voted by masses of Karachi. Go to any house in Karachi and ask it's people who they support & answere will be MQM, Why? because Karachities knows the ground realities, it is PPP waderas who use others for their own purposes. They have used army in 71, Lyari Baloch gangs in 2000's & now they using ANP.

I live in karachi and will never in my life vote for MQM or for any of these other ANP and PPP. The ground reality is 60% of karachi doesnt bother voting and these parties simply go to the polling booth and rig the elections.
Best solution is to disband all these parties becruz there politics is based on ethnicity. They dont care abt pakistan but care only wat is best for there respective ethnicity i.e. sindhi, pashtuns and muhajir.
It irrites me tht we have such idiots both in politics and public. KArachi which could easily be better then dubai is left to rot becruz of these idiots while dubai, abu dhabi happily steal all our opportunities.

no its not to bombard the city, the idea is to bombard the ghettos and strong holds of weaponized areas, arrange the place for IDPs and scrutinise the IDPs with already gathered information about their past record.

Excuse me, but are the ghettos not part of Karachi? Or may be there are no humans living there?

By the same token, would you like a mass mob to arise from the ghettos and overrun the posh areas like defence?

What am I missing in your line of thinking? Please help me understand.

IDPs= internally displaced people.

while conducting the operations they are for sure evacuated to refugee(IDPs) camps, scrutinize their past record...usually criminals dont go into such vulnerable places, they stay inside their strong holds,

P.S.... our armed forces have experience of this in Swat and Waziristan, and our armed forces did it quite successfully.

Therein lies the problem: "securing each section" after it has been cleared. I don't see a realistic way to implement that, given the logistical and resource constraints that are applicable.

Absolutely correct.

Urban Warfare is a nightmare from a military standpoint.

Therefore, for the police, it will not be feasible.

First to clear and then secure.

It will required a huge amount of troops.

The casualties will be high on both sides.

How many cities have been cleared in modern times and sanitised, even in a war?

how about giving Karachiite to some external force that is peace keeping force like the UN has, for example ask Turkey or China police/security forces to take control of Karachi and do the mission clean sweep or whatever bombardment is required to do on Karachi, be done... no blame on anyone in the Capital... ?

No offence to you, but thats a retarded Idea..That depicts the failure of Pakistan as a whole..more fodder for the US to improve its anti pak vocab.

Boy!... you guys are really into the thick of weapons isn't it? I never knew it was this big.

So you want to invite foreign troops to bombard parts of Karachi? I am just speechless. What you are suggesting is treason of the highest order.

The more you post, the more I am convinced you have no idea what you are talking about. Militarily, there is a world of difference in controlling one valley with 1.5 million socioeconomically disadvantaged people and only a few ingress/egress routes and a vast densely populated metropolis of over 18 million producing over half of the wealth of the country.

I think I will choose not to respond to your ideas anymore as I find them atrocious on many levels.

I guess what it takes for us in the West to understand this issue in Karachi is if I said go home and watch "Gangs of New York" starring Leo DiCaprio and you will understand how ethnic politics turns bloody in young nations that are trying to amalgamate the masses into one solid identity. I'm surprised that so many parts of Pakistan seem totally out of Islamabad's hands though, especially an economic hub. How can we entrust then the security of nuclear installations if you don't care about your stock exchange?

In the early history of this continent most people chose to make New York City their destination as opposed to British held Canada or wild unctrollable Mexico. Many conflicts of Europe were brought over by immigrants, and politically most people voted a certain way given their religious or ethnic background.

You need to create a melting pot for your kinfolk to jump in, and prod them in with bayonets if need be. Otherwise, this game of survival for these nations that burden the responsibility of taking in new ethnic backgrounds as opposed to being a nation-state based on ethnicity...can be easily lost.

its not the whole city, its just some areas, blockage by troops and getting the citizens out (IDPs scrutinizing them) and then bang the area to ground while the criminal terrorists are inside it, instead of doing door to door search and combat operation.

take for example Sa'na city operation.

A reality check question, if I may:

Just HOW does one "de-weaponize" a city of 18 million with no effective civil government, or any other semblance of a functional governance structure?

Well pointed and how does one wishes to think about de - weaponising karachi without de-weaponising entire pakistan

Is there any chance of ANP-MQM power sharing ( if both parties demilitarize ) ?

no way. let the ANP win seats from Karachi. Then it can be thought on those lines. There are just few areas where ANP holds majority (actually claim to be their majority bcaz pashtuns live in those areas). That area comprise just 2 to 3 % of Karachi. The problem starts when they forcefully go into areas of MQM and put their flags, do wall chalkings etc.

Turn out of elections remains in between 32% to 40%, so you are among 60% of people who never go out for voting. Not a surprise. But do not forget the reality that MQM holds majority in key areas where they easily manage to pull the people out of their homes for polling.
Those areas are Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, KDA Scheme, Gulshan, Gulistan e Jauhar, PECHS, Federal B. Area, Buffer Zone, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Etc. There they hold clear domination over any other party. Well, after declaration of Malir as Dist. their vote bank diluted as PPP included majority of Sindhi Goths in Distt. Malir in order to pretend that from Malir PPP gets elected.

Ha ha ha!
I have some times thought that ENTIRE Pakistani governance be given to a consortium of UN-Led friendly countries like China, Turkey etc to manage and clean up Pakistan for a couple of decades. Once literacy level rises sufficiently then people will choose much better leaders. Currently, the leadership reflects the people.
Okay, I was kind of joking :)

Coming back to the topic. What is going on in Karachi is a turf war between two major political parties (ANP and MQM) to get to the immense riches of Karachi. That is the bottom line. Unfortunately, ethnic colors cannot be avoided. And, in one way or another, this conflict has been hot since about mid 80's when a young Mohajir girl called Bushra Zaidi died in an auto accident involving a Pathan driven. It was an accident for sure. But, by then, there was seething anger over the public transportation drivers' carelessness and the accident turned into ethnic conflict. It is almost three decades since then and still no true reconciliation.
What has been Pakistan, especially Karachi's, great tragedy is the free flow of weapons the Afghan war brought. That DAMNED GENERAL ZIA ul HAQ allowed drug dealers and armed to teeth Afghans to roam freely in Pakistan. That made the clashes extremely deadly. Otherwise, I am old enough to remember that knives and 'lathis' were used in conflicts. Now...May be graduating to RPGs.

Military rule has been tried. Banning parties has been tried. I would guess that the solution to the violence is in something that hasn't been tried yet, something most Pakistanis can't even imagine.
