Navy might invite private shipyards for submarine construction under Project 75I

Indian Navy recently dropped plans to import 2 submarines directly from the OEM who wins the Project 75I to supply 6 next generation diesel submarines to Indian Navy , idrw.org according to officials in Indian Navy have told us that Indian Navy might Invite private shipyards for construction of those two submarines in India .

Under Original plans Two submarines were to be supplied by Winning bidder and three being constructed at Mazagon Docks (Mumbai) and one at Hindustan Shipyard (Visakhapatnam) with technology transfer from the foreign company eventually selected. Indian navy decided to change the original plan and built all six submarines in India .

But Government Shipyards hoping to get the orders for additional 2 submarines might not get that chance if Indian navy ropes in Private shipyard for construction of 2 submarines . We can only confirm that Navy is yet to take that decision, but recently Defence Ministry barred state-owned shipyard to participate in the Rs 25,000 crore project to construct four amphibious warfare vessels for the Indian Navy and again Pipavav, ABG and L&T might be front runners for submarine contract too.

I think we should stick to any one DCNS or Navantia design (S80 Super Scorpene or this SMX Ocean, if it is offered).

We already have 3 different breeds of conventional subs from 3 different sources. I know the S80 has some problems
but come on..!
