Sikh To Death, a War nerd's tribute to Sikh warriors

the idiot who has posted the article over hear i am sure he himself must not have read it.!! and if he has he is a big douche!!

Interesting article. Even though the author has put forward his points in a different way, I dont see the intent being racist, just his style of writing. I think some of us are getting touchy misunderstanding the intent of the author. We Indians (and maybe Asians in general) do tend to get way too touchy on these matters. And yes, inaccuracies are there in the article... but I dont think this fella is the sort of guy to be bothered by details!

Thanks CardSharp for posting this one. Could you post the link as well?

Apologies for my fellow countrymen crapping you on what I think was a well-intentioned post.

Karthik,
Your opinion about the Rajputs is... well.. I cant think of any word to describe it. Anyways, your theory is that though there were Rajputs who were brave... we had bad apples in there... and so the whole of Rajputs are rotten. Using your own theory, if the Tamilians were a united bunch, can you please let us know what the Cholas, Cheras, Pandyas etc existed instead of a single "Tamil" entity? My point being, divisions and differences are part of politics.. in past, present and future.

Oh is it..? Go read abt a certain race of ppl called "Tamils" and extent of the Tamil empire under the Cholas that spanned across Tamil Nadu to vast areas of present day Indonesia,Malaysia,SriLanka and Cambodia.

Yes indeed... during a short period in history, Tamilians did rule few of territories. Similarly, parts of Tamil territory were being ruled by their neighbours on their northern borders for extended periods of time. Would it imply that Tamilians were inferior to them? I dont think so.

Similarly, there have been points in time when the Rajputs had become subsidiaries of the powerful Mughals. To pick out these instances as a proof of the Rajputs being inferior to anyone is an injustice beyond words! So I think you should follow the advice of the gentleman who asked you to brush up your history! Maybe something other than non-Tamil, probably start with the Rajputs.

And remember were the only region in medieval India that was not conquered by any external power including the Mughals and even the British could only exercise a nominal rule upon us.

Instead they were ruled by the empires with origin in Karnataka and Andhra. So what?

Also, whats "nominal" about British Raj in Tamil Nadu... Mysore may be nominal, but Madras!?

The reason why there are no histories of Tamil-Mughal wars is that they were mostly skirmished in wich the Mughlas were soundly repulsed.

Having a strong neighbour up north always helps!

Similarly, the people residing in the northern plains ought to be grateful to the Punjabis and the Rajputs for facing the brunt of the invaders.

Sikh To Death

FRESNO, CA --
In 1897, 21 Sikh soldiers in British service were occupying two tiny forts on the Afghan frontier. The Pushtun were getting bored, the way they do every few months, and decided to stop taking British gold and attack the Raj instead. So 15 or 20,000 Afghans whooped down to the frontier. And those 21 Sikhs were standing in their way.

Proudest of the Proud: Officers in the Punjab Cavalry

The Sikh garrison knew they were doomed, and if anything it kind of relaxed them. They went on to cover themselves with glory, killing hundreds of Afghans before they were overrun. The unit's communications specialist, who used a helicograph, a kind of semaphore, sent his last message asking permission of his Brit officer to stop signaling and go down and die spitting Afghans on his bayonet. Permission was granted, and he carefully packed up his helicograph, charged into the fight and died gloriously.

Here author is saying about battle of Saragarhi

Here it is
Battle of Saragarhi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pasthun strength is doubted from 10,000 to 20,000
And also their casualties from 180 to 600.

Not many in my state know about Baba Deep singh ji or even maharaja Ranjit Singh not many in India apart from maharashtra know about battle of Pawankhind and Bajiprabhu Deshpande.. Even fewer people know about Lachit Borphukan all over India ( except assam).

And dont forget the Great General Zorawar Singh....under whom my forefathers fought for the Great Dogra Army.

Guys..i am a hindu rajput..i have been following this thread and read many comments on what rights and wrongs Rajputs did.

I feel this is a thread about Sikhism and discussions should only be about that.Anyone having an 'urge' to crticise rajputs can open a seperate thread and can come up with his tribe or region and we will discuss both Rajputs and the criticisers tribe in detail.

And moreover you can crticise Rajputs for not having great leaders but never question their bravery.

Comming on topic:-

This article while praising Sikhs passed some racist comments on Bengalis.I dont know about the Sikhs who like this article but if i was a Sikh i wont have liked it coz i dont want people to praise me or my tribe at the cost of passing cheap comments about others.

I dont care if the author calls himself watever and if this is his writing style....tommorow if he calls me a motherf**ker..i wont say that "look he called himself a motherf##ker too"

Secondly there is nothing to be proud of Operation Bluestar..if at all the millitants managed to hold up was because of the fact that a "traitor" Sikh General of the Indian Army trained them.

This article praises Sikhs for OP Bluestar...if this is the case then we shouldnt be hurt by some Pakistanis being proud of Ajmal kasab.

Maybe Sikhs in Canada can be proud of this article..and be a helping hand to the Khalistan freedom fighters in Canada.

Why this forum is full of BS articles?? I am hating myself after reading such a long article which is nothing but racist, irrtating and talks about no connection to Hindus. Let me point out only one thing, I am eldest son of my family and If the same happens during Great guru Gobind Singh's time, My family would have given me to be a Sikh soldier for saving Hindus/Sikhs...

Ahhh failed in history, let me correct it.

If you would have born during Great Guru gobind singhs time, your family would have given you to be a sikh soldier for saving just HINDUS. or in short your family itself, during those times it was hindus who needed to be saved and helped. Sikhs fought wars and didnt ever asked for help/saving

Sikh have long history of helping out hindus.

It was Shahbeg who organized the Mukhti Bahini, the Bangladeshi guerrillas who made history by being the first Bengali armed force in history not to pee in their dhotis and flee at the sound of gunfire. In fact, this Sikh must've given the Bengalis some kind of Sikh blood transfusion because they fought well enough to make the West Pak garrisons surrender en masse even before Indian troops crossed the Bengal border. After that it was the end of history for East Bengal, except for a bunch of whiney George Harrison begging chanteys, and a tidal wave or two.

I know this is not to be taken seriously and it's sarcastic **** and all but still I find it too offensive because many north Indians seem to cater same sort of belief and also carlsbergs I had taking it's toll on me . It's true we are not sword wielding, gun loving tribe but we have never been subjugated to anyone neither compromised with our integrity. Historically all the emperors who helped India to reach a great hight(eg Mourya, Gupta, Pala etc) had been hailed from Prachi, present Bihar and West Bengal. We fought against British and had it not been for the arab immigrant Mir Zafar's treachery we would have sent them where they belong. Everyone knows what's our contribution to India's independence struggle. With all my respect to Bhagat Singh, tell me how many times people like Binay, Badal, Dinesh, Surya Sen, Bagha Jatin, Titumir even are mentioned in a same way mainstream media hails him just because they don't belong to british invented martial race!

Edit: Also add to it Bengalis contribution to get rid of barbaric customs of Hinduism in 19th century, nothing relevant to the article discussed, but one can help his country in many way, not always with flintlocks.

Jats in hindus is considered strong and muscular creed, they are very good International sportsmen especially in bodybuilding, wrestling, boxing, taekwando and badminton (saina nehwal:smitten::smitten:)

Oh balbir singh mein social status ya caste system di gal kariyan waan.Body builder tay sportsmanan di nahin.

Sohnya soch samj k gal karya kar!

Sorry dude I intentionally left them out (even though they were good warriors) cos they were the original traitors (no offence) who joined hand with the Mughals to save their own @ZZ and sold their integrity to fight against their own kind..

You didn't included Rajputs but praised Gurkha, who themselves claim descent from Rajputs of North India. First Gurkha was "Bappa Rawal" (Rana of mewar).

You are missing the point here, dude. Do not forget that Netaji Subhash chandra bose does get a respectable mention! The problem is not the 'martial race' mentality but the fact that indian media rarely projects anyone else apart from the ruling party family as heroes . ( Otherwise you would know the name of wasudev balawant fadke who belonged to a so called ' martial race ' )

That is why I think we need to share these stories and pass all of them to the next generation.

If there ever was any doubt about bengali courage it was thoroughly demolished in the freedom struggle of India. Netaji being the brightest example!

@ colddude, Will you please let us know more about general Zorawar singh?
