Should vietnam move it's capital to the south

. .
In a conflict with China, moving the capital south will only buy a few more days of reprieve before the heart of Vietnam is taken.

Vietnam stands alone and its government inept. Vietnams best defense is making itself an unattractive acquisition.

you should seriously consider scrapping communism and returning to former imperial glory. xi jinping can seize the throne. as the new son of heaven, he declares everything now belongs to him. vietnam sends envoy to beijing, pays tributes and gets peace in return :D

If I recall vietnam paid tribute to the Qing court until the bitter end, the collapse of the Qing dynasty. except vietnam, I don´t mind if xi jinping enslaves all neighbors including indonesia :-)

The old imperial system of tributes benefits the smaller states more than befit China. The Ming sent armies to fight Hideyoshis invasion in Korea and even the Qing sent armies to fight the French in Vietnam. All that is required in return are small symbolic gifts.

benefit smaller states? you are a joker. your small neighbors had more or less no choice. because refusing paying tribute means rejecting chinese supremacy, and automatically a declaration of war. so is ancient chinese world order.

the qing intervened sending the army in when realizing the french used vietnam as springboard for invasion of china. but you came too late, and all too litle to have a major impact. you had not learned from the war against japan when defending korea.

Vietnam should move their capital to some island in SCS. Easy target.
spratlys?

Tribute came in token forms. Relatively cheap considering the protection offered. The Tang Armies destroyed the Yamato Fleet at Baekgang for the Koreans and sent tens of thousands of soldiers to fight the Japanese during the Ming dynasty. Both campaigns were successful and Korea remained their own soverign to this day.

Vietnamese are always complaining about Chinese expansion but fail to take into account the benefits of Chinese suzerainty. Bad relations with China is not really an option for Vietnam for the short term or long term. History has tied your people to ours and you are forever in the shadow of China. Its how you play your cards with the hand you are dealt.

btw, I agree that Qing assistance was weak but that is because the Imperial Qing dynasty was rotten to its core in the later years of the dynasty. Remember that Vietnam dislodged the French with large help from China culminating with the decisive battle at Dien Bien Phu. Chinese rice, weapons and even military advice from experience in Korea.

But why you lost in Vietnam invasion with 2-4 million fully armed regular ? With in one month you packed your bags. This time around big daddy will there to help Vietnam. Don't forgot that will be messing up with our Interest in SCS ! Vietnam is not alone !!!
Don't believe Vietnamese's propaganda. We did not lost the war against Vietnam. Vietnam lost more soldiers(real soldiers, not militiamen as Vietnamese said) than ours. And the Cambodia still exists as an independent country.

we have a problem with your arrogance.

I give you an example: there is an order or ranking within tribute system. while the ming placed vietnam behind korea, the qing put vietnam, not only behind korea, but ryukyu, siam and laos. a provocation for our pride. we considered laos, siam and many others as barbarians. chinese court knew 100%, imperial vietnam itself considered as educated, as southern country (you were seen as notherner). it is just one of the many examples that we dislike china.

korea has always played an important role for china. you put the koreans on top of the system. I just wonder why you did not annex the country? no, you always are keen to bully vietnam. if not, even wanted to annex us.

cheap tributes? LOL...you have no idea. we sent the most educated and intelligent men to chinese court. hitting the roads to chinese capital several 1,000 miles away. do you know how long it took in ancient times? and the gifts for the emperors. I have little idea what we sent him when he celebrated his birthday. but he received presents from vietnamese emperors.

I don´t need to mention you gave support to our enemies: champa, siam, khmer, malays and many others. ok, you supported us during the campaign against the french army. your credit.

Siam and the Ryukus were courteous and willing. In fact, during the invasion of Korea by Japan during the Ming Dynasty, Siam and the Ryukus offered token support in the form of a few ships and soldiers. The Ming Court politely rejected the offer but it is a good gesture.

Vietnam on the other hand is unruly and disorderly. In S.E. Asia, you constantly have your own way with the other kingdoms.

By the way, travelling to the imperial court was a great honor back in the days. Did these intelligent sons of Vietnam go there and learn nothing? Was it so hard to be a guest? So hard indeed!

Vietnam is warlike and too undisciplined. The Champa were destroyed so thoroughly that their refugees flooded into Hainan. You are good at war but its Chinese teachings and values that tie your country together.

no, we are not unruly and disorderly as you say. we just go our way. why can´t you accept it?

not sure about the people of ryukus, but the rise of siamese kingdom to a dominant power in the region was greatly contributed by china. no wonder the siamese said a big "thank you". many siamese kings were chinese ethnics anyway. the ryukus were known as pirates. no wonder we spanked them a bit.

you should be thankfull to vietnam when we destroyed champa. nobody needs aggressive muslim states in the region. in the neighborhood. or what do you feel when they declare holy war on you? actually the malays were the next target. lucky for them, you intervened.

no, travelling to the chinese court was not funny at all. what can our men learn from china? how to kowtow? LOL

Writing? architecture? Imperial bureaucracy? Culture?

Poor behavior and a warlike disposition made Vietnam a poor contributor to Confucian order.

Too confrontational, too erratic and too angry.

The Vietnam of today should understand that such an attitude will be to their own detriment. The international community have little sympathy or respect for Vietnam and you are too small to impose yourself on them. You already have a bad hand, playing it poorly out of spite and anger will only make things worse.

Maneuvering into an alliance with China will put Vietnam in a strong position. Before it all went to 5hit during the cold war, Chinese Vietnamese relations were quite good. Then you fcuked it all up and picked the Soviets to be your best buddy because China was poor. It was a short sighted choice.
