Should Pakistan go for a Twinjet or not?

Before anything else, I must say that I am not an expert in the field. So everything I say here is nothing but my own analysis and intellect.

I have been observing a lot of arguments and debates regarding if 'Pakistan should go for Twinjet or not', and thought of putting forth my point of view.

Pakistan MUST have twin jets as its economy improves and trade routes become critical for her economy. 200 JFT Block II, 50 Block III's, 100 -16's, about 80 J-11 / 16's and about the 80 J-31's are almost a must have. Pakistan's EEZ has increased by 200-300 miles I think so you'll need airspace coverage there as you'll expand out your naval presence, effectively killing the idea of any blockade of Karachi forever.

So 80-120 jets will need to be dedicated to the Naval air arm, including both single and twin engined aircraft for longer range coverage. Getting twin engined jets shouldn't be an "IF" question, it should be more of a must have and "WHEN" to buy question.

Well i agree with u time to sharpen teeth of navy 30 jf 17 50 mirages and J 11 around 40 would make pn more reliable to any offence pakistan airforce should also consider grey eagle and few J 11 version today pak airforce only based on multirole ni air superirity fighter jet

about 80 J-11 / 16's
Not possible...For naval role may be Rafale as they would be given on the Arab Defence Force budget. This is the very reason France is no more interested in the Indian order. How many is still not known when this deal is going to be anounced is also not confirmed.

No Arabs will be sponsoring you got anything, you can get that down ASAP. Pakistan, with the economic progress, should be in a position by herself to buy J-11's from China on favorable terms. As of a few months ago, Pakistan as a powerful country, has put its foreign policy away from Arab influence. And that's what powerful countries do. Your economy should support that attitude and change.

F-15s offered to Pakistan?

They can be if Pakistan can pay for them and there are used ones too. But I think what's beneficial for Pakistan is something along the lines of local assembly of J-11's or J-16's (J-16's may be better as they don't have Russian license restrictions). The goal should be home built, if not TOT. That would get you a plane much cheaper, and with a significant foreign reserve staying inside Pakistan. And the planes can be repaired and upgraded internally. That should be the case for everything Pakistan gets. If J-16 is 80% of SU-35, and I can assemble, upgrade and fix in my home with my own mechanics having those jobs, its MUCH better than a 20% more capability and 100% money out to someone else,

1350 km range not 200 and chase and return it will go inside 500 km+ inside india

Hi,

It does not work like that my boy----once you see the enemy you are engaging---you jettison tanks---get into combat----and then you don't have much fuel for that kind of chase----.

If the aircraft are receding---you launch your BVR's missiles and hope for a strike and turn around and go home to gas up.

That is why you need a heavy aircraft because it can hold more fuel in its wings---can chase for longer distances and stay afloat longer.

I think it is too vague...is it meant for the airforce or the Naval air arm?

Naval Air Arm...then I would suggest only the heavy twin engined platform. Because you will be facing a formidable fleet in a huge area,,,and in case of a blockade the air arm must have the capability to carry heavy weapon loads for a long distance. It will be like attacking HVA that is moving all the time and has a huge defensive arsenal.

Air Force I would stick to what Niaz is saying, A single engined fighter is a much better option for Pakistan. But it must have an engine like the F-135 in it then it makes sense. India and Pakistan are neighbours and both of them can see deep into each others air space now.

Twin engine fighters can be the tip of the spear which go deep inside enemy territory specially if they are 5th Gen stealth. . Longer Range, Loiter Time, Larger Payload etc. Pakistan definitely should get 50-100 twin engined fighters and i think they will get a 5th Gen stealth option from China. I highly doubt any J11 variants would be coming our way as we are busy with the JFT blocks for the next 3-5 years. Once that is done yes I think PAF would want a 5th Gen fighter to replace the rest of the F7's and Mirages left, then we will enter the force projection stage.

Not necessarily...MiG 29 had a shorter range compared to the F 16. Twin engined low end fighters too exist.

Regarding JFT Block 3, something Pakistan and China should work on is the Typhoon Wet Wing type concept where the fuel is also store within the wing.

India is buying 36 Rafael jets off the shelf and MMRCA deal is yet to be decided.

This is not yet conformed...

The French are no more interested in India because they have 2 countries that have conformed orders and UAE is going to sign a deal in the near future.
