Should Pakistan go for a Twinjet or not?

I would love to see this in service with PAF.. But than again due to limited funds and prone to sanctions it wouldn't be a really nice choice.

Better choice (if they want to go for a twin engine jet) would be a Chinese built SU aka J series flankers.

Or they could just buy 2 sqds to equip the navy and wait for the 5th gen fighters.

Indias defence budget is around 36 billion and they need that to replace obsolete soviet platforms.
Indian defence budget is 40 billion for 2015 - 2016 (excluding paramilitary)

You need dual engine for navel platform, because plane need big boast to lift off from short tarmac. But now after deployment of F35, US and his allies will start scraping the carriers and redirect toward the concept of French Mistral. Bow and arrow concept will slowly disappear from ACs.
Well wasnt talking about carrier aviation...was talking about land based aircraft.

F 18 hornet i think will not be wise to buy it is very expansive we have a option from russia new mig 35 it is mostly for export no one yet bought it i think if we show interest we can get it or J 11 is another good option
No Mister
we have NO option to buy anything from Russia that poses direct challenge to India. Mi35 are not a valid example. their limited number and application dont pose any danger to India. they are meant for COIN and anti narcotics role.

both Russia and India enjoy decades of close partnership and alliance so expecting any high end Russian weapon to deploy against our primary enemy (their closest friend) is stupidity.
being wishful is fine but do think if its possible or not (not what you wish).

Mig 35's are a possibility in PAF colours... The Russians require to maintain peace in the area's that are under their protection...Afghanistan is a thereat hence they need someone to police over them... Moreover India is running towards France, Sweden and USA for their Air Force and Navy aircraft replacements... The only limitation is that SU-35's can not be sent to Pakistan...

Though one can not rule out J-10's and J-11D's or J-15's as they would give PAF sanction free usage in case of war on the Eastern Front as well... This is also going to give PAF the same approach (commonalty) as they have historically had with the Western Platforms they have used...

Times has change all thise decade russia never came close to pak why now and MI 35 pose direct threat to india old friends can become new enemies learn from WW 2 example alliance of usa and rusia against germany now they are enemies russia learned hard lesson from india in arms market friends dont matter india rejected ruusian Mig 35 in MMRCA and also they rejected Mi 28 80 percent of weapons india buying from usa and now india is more closer to russian ever lasting enemy so russia want pakistan in its friendship role time have change tables has been turned down wake up

I explained earlier already anticipating your answer that Mi35 are an exception. 4 of them or even more pose NO material threat to India. they are Not sold for anti armor role but for anti narcotics and COIN operations. i am not dismissing the helicopter its a league of its own and can perform very well in any conventional conflict but its technology and its number is insignificant to pose any meaningful threat to a conventional force. in the past despite repeated requests for Su27 we were politely refused so lets land back on earth before getting too excited.

I would have agreed if Russians had so Mi28 Havoc to Pakistan but that will never happen as those copters DO pose direct meaningful threat to Indian forces.
friend and foe term looks good on paper but in reality we cant expect anything more from Russia we need to take tentative small steps before sprinting and having too much expectations.

they are far more likely than getting their original versions from Russia. but getting a twin engine jet will require a change in PAF philosophy. it is pretty much engraved to be a Multi role single engine light/ medium weight fighter and PAF is very comfortable with it.

Do you not consider threat perception to be the deciding factor then PAF philosophy?

Hi,

The problem is that the defense minister is an illiterate person---current and in the past. Heavies would have to be forced upon the paf.
Sir, some of the best war planners were illiterate...AS far as Pakistan is concerned it is only kick backs they care about...

Hi,

You are wrong----they may have been illiterate in the ways of education but not with weapons and war-----.

Our previous guy was a MUTT and this current guy is no different either.

bhai use some sense if pak want these helos for anti narcotics thsn sir plz u dont have sense we have dozens of huey mi 17 old cobras can do this job any time of the day so plz stop saying it is for anti narcotic use MI 35 is flying tank made only for battkefield not for small thugs and drug dealers We use them for anti ground role or may be only for SSG becoz SSG using MI 17 which cant give them air support as MI 35 can carry and support at same time so plz use some sense

Hang Zardari/Bhutto family,Shareef family,Asfandyar family,Pervez/Shujaat family, altaf and his muhajir thugs,Mullah diesel and all the looters upside down.Shake them till they throw up the stolen money from their stomachs called Switzerland,England,Abu Dhabi,I am sure even your not very good choice of machines can be bought ,you will have lots and lots of money spared for other national causes.

What about the jarnails and karnails ? Do you think they are not corrupt ?

For defense interceptors single engine light fighter is wiser. In ww2 close to the end of the war in order to stop allied bombings the costly solution of mass producing me262 twin jet was abandoned for henkel 163 single engine low cost-maintainance fighters.
For attack If the twin jet is semi stealth advertised as full stealth like T 50 then dont modern sams possibly can target it miles away. If india invests in it some more fortune on it and wait several years more for yf23 style S intakes and hidden engines that is another issue. J31 seems to be a better option for both attack and defense.

Other than Jf17, Invest on modernizing your high altitude sam capability to better protect your planes with that budget until J31 arrives. You can use your current and upgraded aircraft, submarines and land platforms to launch cruise missiles from stand off ranges against land, sea targets as well.

If at all we have to go for twin jets it should be for Navy only. As we have quite extended coast line and also may be required to go for deep sea interdiction in order to avert any possible immediate threat or situation which may require quick response at deep seas.
