Should China allow immigrants from South East Asia?

  • Yes, but only the ones who are willing to completely assimilate.

I just cast my vote: Yes, those who can assimilate.
  • Condition should be simple, allowing immigrants of "Chinese" ethnicity, i.e. within the scope of 56 ethnic groups e.g. Han, Manchurian, Mongolian, Hui/Muslim, Tibetan, Uygur, ....
  • Country of origin not limited to any region.
  • Immigrants should be encouraged/incentivized to reside in mid-west provinces, northern provinces.
For non-immigrant, give work visa if such talent/labor is needed.

What about Vietnamese, and Burmese who are willing to let's say marry with a lot of Chinese men, who are finding it tough to find a girl, due to gender imbalance?

This way around 25 million young women can be brought from Vietnam, Burma, and the like.

Frankly, I think you should abolish these 56 categories, and simply create a unified identity called Huaren.

Hahah, the 3rd point is meaningless. Immigrants will follow with economic development, jobs. Hope western and northern provinces can develop fast in near future. otherwise, only the rich guys will move there and enjoy their retire life.

Sure they should be naturalized by marriage, that's reasonable.

Whatever rhetoric is meaningless, each of the 56 ethnic groups has their own DNA, tradition, languages and culture. Even within Han there are distinctive differences between say Beijingners and Cantonese.

Yes that's a challenge, in fact more powerful incentives are needed to develop western/northern provinces, not just for the sake of new immigrants but for any citizens from within China. Whatever incentives that serve the purpose are good, be it tax, education, social welfare or others.

Obviously you are one of the anti-immigrant guys. I can find it from your views of 56 ethnic groups.

Not exactly anti-immigration, but definitely not pro-immigration. We need to be selective, and careful not to disturb demographic/genetic balance or dilute the culture. Millennia old Chinese civilization need to be preserved.

we already have more than 1.3 billions High IQ Chinese in mainland, and 2 childs policy starting up soon!

we'll never give citizenships to those low IQ, uneducated, trouble makers from overseas!

most Chinese citizenships will give it to Overseas Chinese !

for the others, highly skilledworks , scientists, (5 millions -10 millions $) investers ONLY

Good points bro! That's why China need be careful and selective.

There should be a common tying thread for the citizens of a nation. And already the differences between many of the so called minorities is minute, coupled with the fact that most of the mixed marriage people just opt for the minority registration to take advantage of affirmative policies.

All culture, including Chinese, change and evolve with time.

Chinese culture has also done so, by including new groups. According to me, don't look at the first generation of immigrants who may not be able to immigrate easily, but for the children born in China, and growing up in Chinese culture, they will be indistinguishable from other Chinese kids.

So :
  1. Let Vietnamese and Burmese brides come in to solve gender imbalance. The kids that will be born will be totally Chinese.
  2. Promote any person of Chinese heritage who wants to come back to come back.
  3. Promote other hard working people who are willing to adopt Chinese culture to come in.

I'm afraid I have to agree with my Chinese friends on here. china should(and would) never allow low I.Q./extremist migrants to settle in China and even less so gain citizenship. Its not just China though, East Asian countries in general will never follow the catastrophic example of western countries like Germany who have been allowing all sorts of uneducated men and women to immigrate and settle/gain citizenship where they also demand free lunch/benefits from the German government. It has turned out to ne more of a loss than a gain, and this is without counting the long term social effects/implications of such uncontrolled low IQ immigrants .
No matter how some of us might pressure the Chinese to follow our suicidal open door policy, they and other east Asian countries will never agree to follow such a policy, since they know better.
The Chinese will at most allow overseas Chinese to come back and settle on their motherland or maybe allow only HIGHLY SKILLED/EDUCATED foreigners to settle in China and that's it. Any talk of allowing non Chinese or non East Asian/confucian immigrants to gain citizenship in China is a no go area and I agree with their policy. Others can can call them racists or whatever, that's their problem.:)

Key points:
  • Immigration by marriage is natural, that's basic humane care. Many bribes just here in Shanghai alone are foreigners from a long list of origins, their spouses are already calling out for their Chinese citizenship. Let's not break families.
  • China is not a sparsely populated new continent (exclude mid-west), immigration policy is of secondary importance. Priorities are for citizens, already a sizable population here.
  • The current 56-ethnicity ecosystem is so far harmonious, let's maintain it that way. Compared to highly stable mono-ethnic advanced societies like Japan and Korea, China is already far more complicated.
  • The "Chinese" culture here means at least 56 ethnic-cultures, yes immigrants should belong to any of these.

Yes China started granting permanent residence permits to foreigners in 2004. Since then, about 5,000 foreigners have received permits.

For Marbury, green card yes, immigration no.

Stephon Marbury. The 38-year-old American is so popular in his new hometown that he was named honorary citizen of Beijing. Outside Beijing's home court, the MasterCard Center, Marbury has his own statue.

That's true bro!

I have traveled to many places and observed how immigrants, legal or illegal, seriously disrupt local orders. I might as well not post pics, just check Singapore, Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong (the famous Chungking Mansion) or Roppongi in Tokyo (how they are used by Yakuza). It's also getting serious in China especially in Guangdong province.

The situation is only getting more serious. Can't imagine how Guangdong will be the first to get wiped out if a open policy is adopted, so is rest of China.

How the world has changed!

Thirty years ago, most people would want to get out of China.

Now, we are talking about allowing foreigners immigrating to China.

smh.... wtf ...

China today is definitely not the China thirty years ago.

Ya, and those are very few, and only to those who are connected, or in academic professions.

What the difference PR and immigration? the same thing.

PR is just Permanent Residency. That is you get a kind of permanent visa, with the right to own property etc. Almost like a citizen, but not a citizen. Citizenship is different.
