Population density in China

pop_1_h.jpg

The vast interior of China is more sparsely populated than the US. And except for Tibet, the rest of it could sustain a much larger population. The Chinese are good at creating economic opportunities - they should extend it to migrants as well.

There is a reason why these places are not heavily populated, ie they are not suitable for human habitation.

There is a reason why these places are not heavily populated, ie they are not suitable for human habitation.

Each of he factors that supposedly makes these regions unsuitable for human habitation is being addressed by the march of technological progress. Extremes of weather are not an issue in the age of climate controlled living spaces. Lack of transport and communication infrastructure is not much of an issue for a country willing to invest in other countries to build these. New research in GM technology is winning the battle to grow crops in adverse conditions as we speak.

If for no other reason, China should consider the task of feeding its increasingly prosperous citizens. They will demand more meat and dairy products as part of their diet. Where will this food come from? Other parts of the world are soon going to stake claim to the potential food sources that China wishes to rely upon. Better to import agricultural labour to grow your own food.

It should be no one's argument that the interior of China be converted into an urban jungle. That would be an ecological disaster. But there remains significant scope for China to absorb more people into its interior. In any case, the government's hand might be forced sooner than you might think - China's birthrate is well below replacement rate and it will soon begin to tell on growth. Do not expect the government to sit idle and do nothing.

Technology come with cost. The cost of sustaining large population in desolate and mountainous region without source of fresh water is not something China should contemplate.

Agricultural labor? China has too many farmers, far too many. US has around 3 million farmers, Germany has less than 1 million, while China has over 300 million farmers. To feed the Chinese population, at most 10 million is all that's needed, the rest are excess labors. The limiting factor in China has always been arable land, not labors. In fact Chinese are renting land in Africa, in Russia and even in the US just to farm.

we do not need deluded and bragging genes into our country, U.S model will never work in other countries,

with unlimited opportunities and prosper society, they surely will attract loads of highly skilled and hard working people to China, these people are more than welcome```however, we wont build blocks of ghettos and slums for those to come for a free ride

Just FYI, China and the US took in similar numbers of refugees:

List of countries by refugee population - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We are doing our fair share.

That said I would think that immigration from the diaspora should be encouraged. Give those who claim Chinese descent a fast track to immigration, for instance, to tap into Southeast Asian diasporas would be great.

China doesn't need fifth columnists to grow their food for them. As for the question itself, it depends on their relations with China and the Overseas Chinese.

Refugees are different. Also, in this list only those people are counted who have been recognized by UN as refugees, and who haven't got citizenship. US generally gives citizenship to people coming in, so they haven't been counted as refugees.

If you want to really see immigration, just look at the net flow of migrants in/out of a country. China is one of the loosers of people, while US is one of the biggest gainers.

US is like a giant magnet, sucking in all international skilled work force.

we already have more than 1.3 billions High IQ Chinese in mainland, and 2 childs policy starting up soon!

don't need to worry about China please!

we'll never give citizenships to those low IQ, uneducated, trouble makers from overseas!

most Chinese citizenships will give it to Overseas Chinese !

for the others, highly skilledworks , scientists, (5 millions -10 millions $) investers ONLY

low IQ, uneducated, trouble makers from overseas!

You are having too low an opinion of others my friend, somewhat like White Supremacists.
If this is the majority opinion of the country then it will come back to haunt you and your country. Arrogance, and Complacency have always done China in. And right now, you are no where near developed levels, and to imagine you have such levels of arrogance!

Also, IQ is not intrinsic. It is a product of education, socio-economic factors, and culture. Even if let's say Group A has an average IQ of 90, and Chinese were to have 100, a hell lot of people in Group A will have an IQ greater than 100. Also, half of the Chinese will have IQ less than 100.

China used to historically have a population close to 22-25% of the world. Today that is around 18%. And the population is severly ageing. There are not enough replacements. 2 child policy will hardly be enough to compensate things. The population ratio will continue to fall.

All humans have equal potential, which is the reason why all developing countries are catching up with the developed world. Actually in terms of long term view, the catch up is pretty fast. Developing Asia is growing at around 6% growth rate, while the developed world is growing at 1%.

Today, the world is globalized, which means that capital, technology, and knowledge is mobile. Hence, all three will definitely go to places where there is more potential to grow, that is developing world.

You can certainly start with that. But the fact is that right now you are loosing your own countrymen at record rate. Most of the Chinese who have already taken citizenship in the developed world will not be ready to come.

The best chance is to convince the Chinese in S E Asia, where they are both not highly developed, and also discriminated to varying degrees.

Right now, China is loosing these kinds of people, because these people demand high quality of life. Have you ever seen the list of people who get citizenships abroad due to investments? Most of it is filled with Chinese.

Also, it will be increasingly hard for you to even attract them. If most of your people have a conception of the state, based on race etc. then people coming from abroad will never feel at home in China.

It is for the benefit of China to become a state defined by culture, the Chinese culture, not race, or a set of ethnicity. Try to create a Huaren identity, instead of a hard core Han one, because Hua ren is more inclusive, and based on culture, which can be adopted by outsiders.

Ultimately the battle for leadership in the world, is also a battle and challenge for ideas, and values. And China will ultimately have to fight it.

Only the selected few are allowed so I generally vote no.

Why?

It's a fact that East Asians have higher IQs than Westerners. This is at a fundamental genetic level, and the Westerners can't use the excuse of poor education and diet.

85% of Chinese PhDs want to go back. The best of the best go back.

We should only allow immigrants from the US.

Reverse brain drain will happen soon.

And who on earth would to choose to live in a neighborhood where everybody has a gun.

Prove the "fact."

Also, look at net migration figure, that will give you exact figures.

Indian can think about it. Chinese love Indians. Did you watch the show "非诚勿扰" (similar with the show take me out.)? A Indian beautiful girl is popular, lot of guys want to date with her.

I just cast my vote: Yes, those who can assimilate.
  • Condition should be simple, allowing immigrants of "Chinese" ethnicity, i.e. within the scope of 56 ethnic groups e.g. Han, Manchurian, Mongolian, Hui/Muslim, Tibetan, Uygur, ....
  • Country of origin not limited to any region.
  • Immigrants should be encouraged/incentivized to reside in mid-west provinces, northern provinces.
For non-immigrant, give work visa if such talent/labor is needed.
