I know all that but we must measure people with reference to their time. When Churchill was saying this the so called "oldest democracy and bastion of freedom" USA still had no Negro vote and was mostly segregated. And you know and I know while what he said was often caustic but it had more then grain of truth in it. Islam being retrogressive? I think you know and I know if that statement is valid - look at KSA.

If you look at your great Gandhi you will know there are aspects of his life that are quite controversial. And we know about his views about Blacks in Africa were not exactly politically correct but again he was man of his times. We can't apply our measures on the past.

I would say I have represented the British Empire and independence better in my EPQ, in a fair view for all three parties.
