Shahed-136 - Tracking usage & expanding understanding.

According to the Ukrainian State Bureau of Investigation, as a result of the destruction of one of the kamikaze drones, its fragments hit the cockpit of the Ukrainian MiG-29, after which the pilot was forced to eject. The plane crashed into a field and burned out.

Plane has to get very close for interception

By nature of the size + RAS/RAM of the UAS, the only highly effective solution is Air launched ARH based missiles like the Aim-120. Anything else as unsatisfactory odds. Even a lets say 40% interception rate with SARH missiles is poor because of the vast quantities the opponent would have to deal with.

it possible they also got some Shahed-131's as well

As far as I've seen, I've only see Shahed-136 components photographed in Ukraine, but maybe Geran-1 is supposed to be these more simple units.

Confirmed, Shahed-131 is Geran-1 and Shahed-136 is Geran-2.

Anything from Zelensky will be 99% lies and lies

Indeed if you follow their media you would ask yourself why Ukraine doesn't occupy 15% of the Russia and annex it to it's soil!

Zelensky has stated in the G7 summit that Russia has purchased 2400 Shahed Suicide UAVs. With over 50+ flights made to Russia during this time, this number is plausible. I would not be surprised if the next batch order is already in the process of being manufactured.

It is in Iran's interest for NATO nations to deplete/expend their stockpiles of AD interceptors in Ukraine.
At least this way Ukrainians can get a little fire in winter!

What are the chances of Ukrainians making their own version and use it against Russians in near future when something like the Shahed falls into their hands? Easy to make?

A single factory should be able to produce dozens of these engines per day as long the money is coming in. If Russia is paying for these UAVs, then the costs of operation are of little concern and production will continue.

My guess is that Iran makes initial deliveries with it's own stockpile to give Russians something to use immediately, and then will produce new lots for them.

If we have sold the production lines to Tajikistan and Venezuela, then there is no reason to think the same thing hasn't happen in case of Russia. but, like any similar deal, the amount of localization doesn't start at 100%.

One thing about the engines is that, the engine which we produce for these drones are much much cheaper than the chinease one as well, cause these are one time use only, no need for fancy alloys. so even a $20k cost isn't accurate.

Yes this is true, very good point. This 2 stroke engine used in Shahed-136 can also be used for single seater manned simple, propeller plane or UAV.

Might have increased reliability issues but in large quantities such problems would be overcome.

Is the pic a destroyed drone and only the motor is left ?
The pic's would be a successful strike

Post impact, the wings are blown off the body in the blast, the main body is destroyed, and the engine is also blown away but survives with some damage.

If you see the central body damaged or intact, it indicates it was either shotdown or malfunctioned and crashed.

Looks like a shootdown. Of course, one must ask why it was used in day time, where optical channels can be used to down it when it is only traveling at around 150km/h at low altitude. Big mistake in usage

Much assumptions are made that launches occur in Crimea, with the Kerch bridge partially damage, it could affect launches as stock replenishment may slow down for the time being.
these drones seem to use a rocket assist in take off. Anyone know details?

October 13th.

Video showing what looks like Automated AA firing in sets of 5 rounds, and SAM system working against Shahed UAS.

The SAM missile seems to come back down pretty quickly after launch, almost like it failed.

The AAA system fired 4 sets of 5 rounds to work against a Shahed UAS which does show it has a certain degree of missing the target.


Confirmed by Ukainian MOD, they lost 2 Jets today who were working in Central Ukraine, the wreckages have been found ,apparently these were working to intercept Shahed UAS, this leaves a total of THREE jets down in last two days due to this activity leading to this image.

More drones were launched into the night. Being heard in the West side of the Dnipro river. Also being launched against Odessa and Nikoleav regions.

Geran-1 is proved to be the older more simpler Shahed-136 version. Both smaller and cheaper.

This Geranium-1 or Shahed-131 was actually used to target an area in Kiev Oblast 24 hours ago, which is surprising considering it's flight range would be around 500km for such small UAS

if you have an underground parking lot , i can't see why you can't transform it to produce those electric parts , it only need a moderate workshop to produce them
and they always can be built outside country and ship back in a car literally can carry enough board for probably 50-60 uav . what is a concern here is how much it will cost for them to produce it .
in west they want higher than rational amount of margin on anything produced related to military .they say , its government , its military let ask as much money from them m it cost us 100$ to produce the board let ask for 2000$ and if they complain we can reduce it to 1500$ , they pay for it
Even if the loitering munition cost 100k, they be worth the investment to destroy ammo dumps, barracks, command and control, airbases with expensive planes and helos, even Russian critical infrastructure like oil refineries and electrical systems and so on.

Why? Its not an American weapon. And the Ukrainians have hit Russian soil many times. In fact they just did it again today hitting a warehouse filled with ammo in Belgorod. So using a Shahed Ukrainian version would be the best weapon to use against Russia in the long term.

I keep on meaning to find this article, it’s from awhile back it’s basically a repurposed recon drone and yes it was a failure, but with trial and error to maybe one success. Reminds me of cheaper looking version of karrar which I’m not mistaken also was repurposed from a target drone, I could be wrong

ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) — A military drone that apparently flew all the way from the Ukrainian war zone over three European NATO member states before crashing in the Croatian capital was armed with an explosive device, Croatian crash investigators said Wednesday.
The 6-ton Soviet-era aircraft apparently drifted uncontrolled out of Ukraine, crossed into Romania and Hungary before entering Croatia, slamming into a field near a student dormitory early morning on March 10 in Zagreb. About 40 parked cars were damaged in the large explosion, but no one was injured.
Members of the Croatian investigative team told reporters Wednesday that fragments of the drone found at the crash site showed that the device carried an “improvised aircraft bomb” that was filled with unknown type of explosives.
“It was unequivocally established that these were fragments of the OFAB 100-120 air bomb,” said Maj. Mile Tomic. “Both the bomb and its trigger were made in the former USSR.”

The investigators said that they have not yet conclusively determined which side in the war in Ukraine launched the TU-141 drone that was originally used in surveillance missions. But they indicated that the Ukrainians are more like to be behind the launch as “fresh” paint traces of their blue and yellow flag were found on the pieces of the wreckage that also included a red star, the Russian air force marking.

Both Russia and Ukraine have denied launching it.
NATO officials have refused to comment on the incident until an investigation is completed, but the alliance had increased its surveillance flights over countries near the war zone and a pair of US Air Force F-16s were deployed from Aviano Air Base, Italy, to Croatia on March 16, taking part in exercises and bolstering NATO’s southeastern flank.
Croatian officials had criticized NATO for what they called a slow reaction to a very serious incident and called into question the readiness of the military alliance’s member states to respond to a possible attack.
NATO said the alliance’s integrated air and missile defense had tracked the object’s flight path. But Croatian officials said the country’s authorities weren’t informed and that NATO reacted only after questions were posed by journalists.

Sustainability is most important, All those things can be repaired and reconstituted. Reapeted strikes require affordability. For Ukraine 100,000k is not afford for America it can be.

Same with Russia attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure with drones and missiles have to be repeated to have a long term affect.

Looks correct to me; Obviously can't tell the target, but this is the confirmation we need to know that they are infact using these for more than just infrastructure, and more importantly if other UAVs are involved in guiding these strikes. If so, their should be videos of these strikes that they haven't released yet.

My suspicion is those night raids that frequently cause alarms to go off in Nikoleav region are night raids against UKR equipment near the front like Artillery pieces. We will find out soon enough. If this is true, these attacks will not be easily covered up.
