Princesses Sahar and Jawaher say they have been held in a villa since 2001

TWO daughters of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia claim that they and their sisters have been held against their will for the past 13 years in the royal palace compound in Jeddah.

Princesses Sahar, 42, and Jawaher, 38, have appealed for help in emails and phone calls to The Sunday Times from the closely guarded villa they say they share.

“We slowly watch each other fading into nothingness,” they wrote in an email.

They said their sister Hala, 39, held alone in another villa, had told them “that her mind is slipping away. . . that the life is being sucked out of her . . .”

A fourth sister, Maha, 41, is also held separately in another villa in the palace compound, they said.

The princesses’ explosive claims open a window onto the usually closed world of the secretive royal family in a country where women’s rights are strictly curtailed.

Their mother, Alanoud Alfayez

And why is that? What is known is that one of Saudi king is an open woman who serves women rights in the kingdom. She appears in public with half covered hair. I find this hard to believe considering the media campaign to distort kingdom's reputation from time to time.

The king has nothing to do with women rights, Saudi people themselves and their culture prefer to live conservatively. They're fine with it.

Yeah right. Several princesses have high level positions in private companies or abroad and we are to believe this? That just those 2 or 3 are kept inside a palace (poor things) for no apparent reason?

All while King Abdullah have been well-known for making pushes for liberal laws and changes and is a champion of women rights?

Enough with this nonsense. My sisters that are in KSA are all educated and have high positions in the society as do most of my other female relatives and that is a picture most Saudi Arabians can recall.

Saudi Arabinan women are kicking *** academically in KSA and abroad (USA, Europe) so that's nonsense.

The confinement of four Saudi princesses is a reminder that the Gulf states are evil empires, especially if you are a woman - Comment - Voices - The Independent

In the country where Islam’s most precious shrine is located, there is no equality, no dignity, no basic humanity extended to daughters, sisters, or mothers

Education is the most important thing other than cleanliness in Islam, in my opinion.

Saudi Arabian women are better academically than the men and much more hard-working. Also there are nearly 100.000 Saudi Arabian women studying abroad from China, USA, Europe other parts of the Arab world etc.

This is just another Western anti-Arab/East campaign.

Who pays them for doing this? I would like to know this.

Far from all obviously but the women are seriously among the best performers academically not only in the US but Europe as well. So that's a very good sign. But that is because they want to prove themselves while the men never need to do that so….

Many Saudi Arabians have conservative views about women. Such as them needing protection and that this field is not for them and that they cannot do this and that. So they are very motivated to prove them wrong.
