And when you fail to understand why a democracy needs to have difficult provisions and difficult definitions of law, when those laws are supposed to be for people of that democracy ................ Laws should be simple enough for citizens to understand, if you have complex laws that require citizens to spend lot of money to get justice, it means business and looting ................. and it really does not matter even if you are the biggest democracy or whatever.

Laws are simple as they are anywhere.

Someone made a complaint against her, a case was registered, the Courts will peruse the matter for merit and then acquit her. This might be very complex for you to understand but this is how it works in any democracy.

A stupid one, and organiser of a BJP front organisation, according to reports, and therefore inclined to put up these cases, as the law is his playing field, and he feels that there will be ample publicity if he does such things.

This is a sad example of an oppressive mentality.

At one hand the indians claim so high of their democracy and in reality they can not stand the truth and want to gag their own MP.

No Joe Sahab the discussion took the turn to discuss what really is a democracy. I personally feel if it does not benefit a common poor person like me it is no democracy (based on popular notion for the people by the people)..................... and laws, law enforcement and judiciary being part of it, if laws are complex and difficult for me to understand and I have to hire services, spend money to get justice, then its all a business to make me fool even if by the looks of it I am living in a biggest democracy. That's all.

Regarding this lady and this whole drama I still stand by my opinion that Indian society is being extremist and insecure.

Case can be filed if you make a seditious remark . The complainant must have registered an FIR claiming that his lady made a seditious remark. Now whether the remark is seditious or not the Courts will decide that. The Court will obvioulst throw out his case as it has no merit. I mean this is basic stuff for god's sake.

An individual's actions have nothing to do with the character of the nation, and especially in this case, which indicates that recourse to the law is the first instinct of an aggrieved person in a democratic and law-abiding nation, not recourse to a Kalashnikov. Whether the cause is sensible or not, is something else; Governor Taseer said nothing very wrong, in fact, he made sense to a lot of people, but his bigoted guard killed him. If you see the difference in response, you will understand a lot.

It does not. Just as no society says that if your sister offends you or your sense of honour, you have the right to kill her. It has to do with the stupidity of an individual, not with laws or society.

If you are talking about sedition charges, its not by the state but by some random dude in some part of India who filed a case in a court...
