Pakistan’s Haj and Umrah pilgrims moved the top court on Wednesday against Saudi Arabia hiring the services of an Indian firm to carry out their biometric verification.

Nadeem A Shaikh of the National Interfaith Harmony Council of Pakistan (NIHCP) filed an application with the Supreme Court on behalf of the pilgrims.

Saudi Arabia has signed a contract with Etimad, an Indian firm operating in Dubai, for pilgrims’ biometric verification.

Biometric verification for Umrah resulting in misery for pilgrims

Pakistani citizens’ data in the hands of an Indian company is a matter of national security,” the application reads.

I must be getting old.

How does the Supreme Court of Pakistan have jurisdiction over the sovereign Kingdom of Saudi Arabia?
Pressure Saudi govt to stop biometrics of Pakistani citizens .This is another Saudi indirect tax on pilgrimage . Soon hajj will be out of reach for poor or meddle class, if they keep on imposing direct and indirect taxes.
Plus, now new security issue created by Saudi govt.

No you know it well sir ..SC can ask government to do this ...government has jurisdiction over its people ..though I don't believe this particular government can take this matter up with KSA

Why is this in Pak SC,it should be directly conveyed by Pak foreign ministry to responsible authorities in Saudi

That is why I am confused. The Supreme Court can do nothing to stop another government from taking biometric data. So what is it worth to file a suit there?

you will find out soon

???

Whatever that is supposed to mean.

Hmm.

Yes, the Supreme Court can pass an order asking the government to take it up. The government only has to point out that it has no control over the Saudi government or its actions, and the matter stops right there. It doesn't solve the problem that Pakistani pilgrims envisage.

Supreme court's orders for Pakistani government to raise an issue with KSA. It is a simple thing to understand and now Pak Govt have to tell KSA that they must hire some other firm.

If Pakistan's advise was so effective, Saudi wouldn't have hired Indian firm in the first place.

They did't object so that is why a person file a petition against Govt of Pakistan.

It can, i believe if GOP refuse the request of bio-metrics like India, Egypt and Bangladesh. Only if GOP take some stand..Egpyt and Pakistan top the list for umra visa applications
