"Saudia Arabia says days of unconditional foreign aid are now over"

The problem right there :D.

Pakistan me awam 1 mahina nai haram chorti and you gave the guy a 35 year run :D.

Aala!

In all honesty, I had no control of the family business all those years, and this fact was also hidden from me. It was brought to my attention approximately 3-4 years ago that we've suffered this much loss. So when we got the call for Skype Video chat to see the funeral procession, the Imam went around telling people to forgive the dirty egg lying there; my other brothers and I said we do not forgive in front of the extended family, except for my parents they did.

I'm in the same boat as you. My parents spent their life as OSP as did I, and they were filling up bellies of the "khandan" back home.

Abi tk dil me drd hai k hae un k pas itna nai hai.

I'm like dad it's because you filled them up every now and then and now they are lazy AF. Pura khandan mera rent seeking MFers. I'm sure it's the same story with every other OSP out there.

I agree, and almost every OSP has a story similar to ours, and it's the fault of our parents and their parents; they practically blackmailed one of the kids with this burden to be carried for life. Then if you don't, you go down the guilt trip; what will mom and father think?

But it's also done within the non-OSP families as well. I know of a friend whose cousin back home can't have children after 15 years of marriage, and he's pretty wealthy in Lahore, primarily dealing in real estate. So his two sisters seeing this situation and knowing he might never have any children as the spouse is almost of age, point blank to his face ask to buy each plot of land and build a house for them, and then tell him you will not have children and you can't take the money to the grave.

The guy is already mentally destroyed, knowing he has no legacy and his bloodline ends with him. All treatments, including IVF, failed him. Whatever he has will go to the sisters anyways, sub loko kylia ra jai ga when he's dead. So then you go light the fuel on him even more. Our people don't destroy you physically but mentally as well.

My advice to you, brother, is to stop sending money and let them fend for themselves. Do not ruin your future and finance's for them back home; as they say, tell them bhar me jao.

@Enigma SIG

What is an OSP?

Thanks @PakFactor. Basically what we call NRIs in India. So I take it that families freeloading on OSPs is reasonably prevalent in Pak. In that case, it would indeed adversely affect the productivity of Pak as a whole. Incidentally sometime back there was this article called "Our Dutch Disease" in Dawn which attributed Pak's economic woes to excessive remittances.

Indeed, I will also look up that article you mentioned as well. Thanks.

That would be "Aid"...
With loan with low interest rate? Oil with buy now pay after 3 months or 1 year or deposit funds in the bank that you cannot use and pay back after 1 year?

Which one is an aid?

Pretty sure i heard somwhere about 50,000 bpd of FREE oil prior to conducting tests to avoid fallout from sanctions.
As far as I know it was after the nuclear tests with assuring from Saudi Arabia provided before the tests were conducted as they were in favour of Pakistan testing the nuclear bomb.

But that is also 24 years ago… welcome to 2023

By the way i would really urge my Pakistani Brothers to once visit the gulf countries and see by there own eyes what they have built, The patriotism of there locals, the loyalty towards the state, the state of thr art Militaries they have developed. Their diplomatic outreach to all parts of the world.
Why do we have this preception that Gulf states are dependent on us for security?

I mean they keep defense relations with all muslim countries with exception of Turkey who are solely involved with Qatar and Iran who is enemy of all. Even Bangladesh Army have close ties with KSA. Even India have so much business interests. People cannot even imagine the scale of Business GCC arabs and Indian Businessmen are doing together.
Even if people believe this hilarious belief that these Gulfies are weak and dont have good armies who dont want to fight, Do you people think if some threat comes to gulf directly all these powerfull people from all parts of the world who have so much financial interests in Gulf will let their relations and investments go to ruin and sit quitely?

Plus We have no reason to hate them. Gulf is probably the easiest part of developed world where we have easy access to do business earn and develope our country from that money. Plain Business no love/Hate

Pakistani days of beginning aren't over.
Just forget about Saudi and build relationships with Iran.

Get Iran gas pipeline now while they are under pressure rather then when they don't have any sanctions.

You are already in technical default it can't get worse than this..even if WB etc don't give u funding due to Iran gas pipeline it doesn't matter as we have defaulted

. .
@ziaulislam

But how will you fund the oil pipelines?

Regards
If world 5th largest populous country and 24tg largest economy with 70b$ budget can't find money to fund 300m$ gas pipeline
Then it doesn't has the right to exist

For some reason it was able to fund 13b$ dam and 3b$ on its own(bhasha munda) but can spit up 300m$ to build its side of Iran piepline

Lol... Are you talking about the corrupt Bajwa army. Pakistani Army of today isn't what it was....

Killing Yemeni Babies for dollars isn't going to bring you Blessings from Above.
Bajwa was/is a traitor no doubt but Pakistan Army could have done much better than the GCC combined army.

The Saudis pretty much are telling Pakistan and Egypt that the era of interest free or deferred payments are over.

The Saudis have pumped alot of petro dollars into sectarianism in the 90s and ofcourse financing the Afghan Jihad, effects of which we are feeling to this day. Pakistan did the right thing in not participating in Saudi Yemen fight. Nor should it participate in any other fights.

You see, the solutions are quite straightforward, but is there a will. I’ll lay out some points. Focus on human development (education, health), reduce the defense budget, dispense quick justice, hold the corrupts accountable. You do these things genuinely and you’ll see most of your problems go away. But hell, we want to continue political engineering, give justice on the basis of doctrine of necessity, have an overbloated defense budget, let the corrupts go free.

Keep doing that, and you might not have a country to live in. There is a limit to everything.

@313ghazi

Ghazi sb,

certain elements who have gotten used to eating from the money others send back - they have lost the ability to earn and the diginity to even try to be self sufficient for multiple generations.

From what little I know, the remittance is sent back for the most part by men to support wives, children and elderly parents. This is a natural sort of activity and dont see how it breeds dependency. Yeah if it was sent to brothers, cousins it would be a different thing but by and large such transfers are only a small part of the remittances.

Regards
Parents have other younger children who are supported by a bigger brother in gcc
That younger brother turns out be a real bum
It’s that younger turned bum brothers kids then that shit hits the fan at the expense of the GCC brother
