What's new

Saudi cleric’s wife shows face on TV, sparks uproar

wow that's something new, Why would I need to earn more brownie points? I am already brown enough.

@FaujHistorian

I don't doubt that and if you did travel in the many regions of KSA you would have meet mostly happy and content people. But did you really take your time to speak with Saudi Arabian women about their views on headscarfs? Really?:o: Why are you making a big deal out of something like this?

Issues such as the ban on women driving (which is not really a law in reality (technically) and which was created in 1990 and totally alien to our ancient long customs and traditions, lack of Saudi Arabian women in the workforce compared to the men (despite having a bigger percentage at the universities and in general being better educated), and some other rather newly created laws that I personally consider retarded, are matters of importance.

You in your crusade to oppose elements of Islam to appear "modern and unlighted" are making small problems into huge problems.

You must have a wife, mother, sister (s), grandmother (s) or some other female relative that have either worn headscarfs or are doing it right now. Did you ever ask them if they feel oppressed for wearing it?

In short people are such engulfed in stereotyping KSA (which from the get-go was stereotyped under false impressions) that they have been lost in time. If you just knew how some Saudi Arabian women appear on Facebook, Twitter, when among other women, ABROAD (!!!!) or on social media you would never think of them as archaic conservative Muslim women that only produced children and stayed back home and did the food and laundry. That's such a epic mistake to make let alone highly ignorant let alone insulting.

oh damn, this woman is pretty :enjoy:
prob one of the reasons why some people prefer to hide their face instead of become a tamasha! - just my opinion I have seen many Arab women who are shy and dont want nor welcome unwarranted attention ...

I don't think being good looking is making a 'tamasha' Beauty is a great responsibility actually.

These self proclaimed clerks are jerks.
I dont know this particular one so I wont state so...but most are yes!

Not being but attracting tamasha is what I meant...Who can blame how they look? but if you are shy and cant help being pretty, the only way to avoid attention is covering up (that is how I saw most Arab women's thinking- I had almost 30 Arab ladies in my MSc when I was in UK)

Please. You will not find clerics that are not under state authority preaching in mosques. Every single cleric in KSA is "cleared" so to speak. Everyone of them have a university degree at a university (either Islamic or non-Islamic). You cannot preach in mosques in KSA otherwise. Anyway KSA is the 13th biggest country on the planet so I do not rule out that there are occasionally less educated clerics in some villages but that's again stereotyping as such not well-known clerics might even be much better clerics and much more knowledgeable.
I don't see what is wrong with what Al-Ghamdi said. Do you speak Arabic? If yes, then watch the link at the beginning of the thread. Please tell me what is wrong with it.

That's not to say that there are not clerics in KSA with (in my view at least) nonsense opinions but there are also very enlightened ones that I have learnt from. It would be idiotic to judge all people in a profession based on a few.

Nonsense "article". Millions of women are not wearing a full veil (niqab) already and have been doing that always. It's always been a personal choice and rarely is anyone forced.

Such topics should be discussed among Saudi Arabians or fellow Arabs. Most foreigners have no clue about the ground realities.

It's like if you asked Arabs or Europeans to talk about social customs in Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Zimbabwe or Burma etc.

Anyway Ghamdi is such a joker.:omghaha:

BS. If you notice in PDF we do authoritatively talk about everything from economy of South Africa to government structure in Antarctica to if swedes should have national health schemes. Your implication sir, that people should actually know what they are talking about is both deeply offensive and against common sense!!

Beauty is from within and from your actions.

People who claim to "defend" women when they criticize headscarfs are at the same time unable to accept that many women willingly wear headscarfs. Because they WANT to. That right they must have. Hence it being idiotic to force people to wear headscarfs or to force them NOT to wear it. I don't support any of those two options. Yet those that really should have a say in this debate are Saudi Arabian women. I don't see any here on PDF. But OK, we can all comment.

Nonsense thing to say. Some of the most beautiful women are wearing headscarfs. Married or non-married. Whether in KSA or elsewhere. Respect the choices of individuals and don't become another version of the same bigots that you rightly dislike.
is that pic photoshoped .....it highly seems so...

Just because people do it doesnt mean it is right! I agree people shouldnt jump in blind and "offer advice" on things they have no clue about!

nothing.. :hitwall:
Sorry I cant make much sense about alot of things right now....if it was important please paraphrase if not leave it :)
