As of 2011, Saudi Arabia has around 300 combat aircraft. The kingdom's combat aircraft are newly acquired Typhoons and upgraded Tornado IDS, F-15 Eagle and F-15E Strike Eagle fighter planes. Saudi Arabia has a further 80+ F-15 Eagles on order and an option to buy another 72 Typhoons.

Let me see what I can find out about this.

There is a great urgency in Saudi Arabia as well as Qatar to produce defense equipment in the country.

This might have given impetus to the procurement program in this way.

If this is real, then we must not sell, rather co-produce with them in Kharj

KSA is facing economic jolts and first time in history sellinf their oil corp shares. They putting all efforts to produce max military equipment domestically. There wealth has been drained by their so called western allies.

On the other hand I guess Tornadoes are not more used by KSA. The JF17 is much cheaper then mentioned jets and costs much lesser for ground missions.

Saudi Arabia can get JF-17 with TOT. Secondly BLOCK III would be pretty much a new Jet with AESA radar capable of carrying all kind of missiles including cruise missiles and BVR and Air to Ground and other. In other words JF-17 would not only give us techonolgy but also great experience to Saudi Air Force as well as there industry.

JFT-B could have western AESA and EJ-200 engine if KSA decide to purchase it.

How come this is the very first visit by a Saudi Air Chief to Pakistan? I thought Saudis lived in Pakistan.

These "advanced" aircrafts can't protect the Haremain (Mekke + Medine) from the Iranian sponsored proxies - rather they're a detriment to it. Weapons made with "Bismillah" are able to do the job. The KSA folks shouldn't be that stupid not to understand this reality. Hopefully, they take some actions like Rahmetli King Faisal before it's too late...

The logic for interest is mere current KSA current state and economics

1. Pays top Dollar to US and Western system (which threatens to stop all support systems citing Human Right violations.Currently US and UK are considering to put ban on KSA purchase
2. Days are gone for high cost procurements means currently 20% GDP loss in trade deficit nearing or topping above 100 Billion US$
3. Sukuk bonds are issued for 20 Billion US$ .So Financially troubled
4. JF17B/A 3rd block offers technology ,commitment at such a handsome price 50 Mil roughly that it is unmatchable so all seems possible .

Saudis are doing lot of things these days in cost cutting
Average flight cost of typhoon and F15 is much higher than JF 17
A common plate form will help them in critical time
They realised seriously the US policy towards Iran and the 9/11 victims bills passed by congress
They learnt from Pakistan and are seriously thinking to decrease their dependency on countries having similar interest and approach, they can paralyse anytime if used against their will
Saudis are trying to come closer to a newly future block that have pakistan as an ally.
It will ba great venture if Pakistan has defense supplies of major items to these countries because pakistan will have more influence in these countries

Why is everyone always considering. I heard Nigeria wanted our JF17's... what happened to that? I think its time to market JF17 aggressively and get ourselves some real sales.

According to a nigerian military and mil blog twitter handlers stated the aircrafts were scheduled to land in September but the deliveries will now be made by year end.
