Saudi Arabia planning procurement of JF-17 Thunder, Mashshaks, says Saudi air chief

haha someone on here was laughing at me 2 days ago when i bought up that Qatar and Saudi both want the jf17-B twin seater and will be getting them in huge numbers.

Saudis will also push hard to get their engine of choice on the JF17-B which will be the the typhoons engine ef200 engine.

why are people so blind as to still not seeing the role of the jf17. its a very cost effective way to bulk up your air force and inter join the jf17 with other air domanice fighters.

saudis will have the jf17 alongside their typhoons and the qatar's will have the jf17 alongside their rafeals.

just like how Pakistan uses its jf17 alongside the f16's.
Thats a very good suggestion if it could attract some traction, it probably will.

A 5th Gen fighter for pak, saudi and gcc with technical help from China is a great idea.
Wish it could be heard by them.

Areh mesha . I have also heard that iran is also very much interested in jf 17 . The latest intrest were shown 3 months back Cuz it can give iran bang for its money is that true?

Nope

KSA has retired 125 F-5s.. so the JF-17 block 3 is logical..it surpasses the F-5s in every aspect..

I am not the type of saying, Oh I said it before, but it was among my predictions through analysis that the J-17 was to replace the F-5s.. and this in many threads. So I am glad to see it happening..
Add that Sudan is a good prospect..This Saudi deal will open the market in all the Arab coalition and ultimately all the Muslim coalition against terrorism..JF-17 block 3 and its derivatives will fly high..

Interesting development and I was expecting this. Way back a year or so, there was a news of a 34 country coalition around the Arab world and it was going to be led by the KSA. I expected that Pakistan will have a big share in taking some leadership role in that 34 country strong military (knowing its the only nuke power in the Islamic world and one of the most experienced militaries around the world).

So this news doesn't come as a surprise. The JFT block III and the future variants, in my opinion, will make the back-bone of the 34 country strong force (which would be very affordable), supplemented by KSA, UAE, etc's advanced platforms (during conflict). This would also mean the leadership would be taken from Pakistan's retired military elite (I'd even speculate that Mr. Raheel Sharif would have a role there too as an adviser soon).

This also means that the Pakistani military industry would get a huge boost and the JFT program is no headed towards becoming a junior Rafale or F-16 block 60 type of an aircraft as the KSA would more than likely get Western equipment to be integrated into the JFT to make the entire system work together with the KSA, UAE and others. More than likely components from the EFT will be procured. This is huge for this program and overall for Pakistani military product development. Great step.

No, we will never get F-15 planes.

(We needed A-10 s but it is now too late. FetÖ Generals sabotaged all plans with their masterminds.)

Who believes in TF-X ? me not.

J-31 could be a common solution. We need all Russian Licence for sure.
But Russians won't trust either China or Turkey, at this moment.

Many believe by purchasing the Su-35 it will allow China to eventually clone the jet's advanced avionics
and sub-systems for use in their burgeoning stealth J-20 and J-31 programs.

ISLAMABAD: General Muhammad bin Saleh Al Qtaibi, commander of Royal Saudi Air Force, has said that his country is exploring hefty procurement from Pakistan JF-17 Thunder multi-role planes and Super Mashshak trainers for its air force.

In a brief chat with The News here on Sunday evening at the residence of Saudi Ambassador Abdullah Marzouk Al-Zahrani in the Diplomatic Enclave, he said that Pakistan is producing state-of-the-art equipment for defence use. He lauded the standard of Pakistan’s armed forces training and their commitment with their assignment.

General Muhammad bin Saleh, who is the first-ever Saudi air chief visiting Pakistan, said that he was greatly impressed by the working of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). The ambassador hosted a dinner in the honour of visiting air chief of his country and it was also attended by host Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Sohail Aman and other senior officials. The two air chiefs later had an exchange of souvenirs. The Saudi air chief will visit the PAF installations, air bases and have talks with the sister air force before returning home tomorrow (Tuesday).

Earlier on arrival, he was received by ACM Sohail Aman at the Nur Khan base at Chaklala. General Qtaibi has been invited by his Pakistani counterpart ACM Sohail Aman. The Saudi Air Force is interested in undertaking joint exercises with Pakistan and intends to purchase defence equipment from Pakistan. It is likely that all subjects of mutual interest would come under discussion during the stay of the Saudi general in Pakistan. The Saudi air chief will also call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad.

The PAF is attaching significance to the visit of the Saudis. The air chief of Pakistan visited Saudi Arabia at the invitation of General Saleh Al-Qtaibi in April this year and was warmly received in the kingdom. A royal protocol was given to him. He discussed matters of professional and mutual interest there. The air chief expressed satisfaction over the mutual cooperation between the two air forces and offered all training facilities to the Royal Saudi Air Force. He also shared the PAF’s experience of fighting against extremists in the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azab.

The Saudis appreciated the high standards of professionalism set by the PAF and highlighted the need for learning from each other’s experience. The air chief also visited the King Faisal Air Academy and met the PAF instructors and ground crew of Mushshak aircraft, who are deputed to Saudi Arabia.

The air chief lauded the PAF contingent for their valuable services and advised them to work as ambassadors of Pakistan in the brotherly country. The sources said the Saudi air chief had planned to visit facilities in Islamabad, Risalpur, Peshawar and Karachi.

Why is everyone always considering. I heard Nigeria wanted our JF17's... what happened to that? I think its time to market JF17 aggressively and get ourselves some real sales.
Nigeria is already confirmed as a buyer. Delivery is suppose to start sometime next year.

Defense sales and negotiations can take years to do, and keep in mind that Pakistan is still a new player, and the thunder is facing against machines that are far more technologically advanced; the thunder was meant as a low end domestic solution, exports were only a secondary consideration.

The Saudis won't buy the thunder, it doesn't make sense for their modernization plans.

Similar news came up in 2014 and 2015 and now in 2016, maybe they were waiting for a satisfactory development like the new AESA radar, IRST and the new other goodies in Block 3,, this pattern is persistent in time so one can take it as very serious..

I agree. I think they were waiting for BLOCK III. I think Pakistan should also focus on marketing this jet to Morocco as well as Egypt and also Tunisia. Tunisia has hardly any active fighter jets at this moment and they don't have that big economy to afford very expensive jets. So for them JF-17 BLOCK III would be ideal plane to induct.
