Saudi Arabia is studying a major tourism project to build a huge sea canal along the country's border with Qatar, which will turn it into an island and be operated by a Saudi investment consortium of nine companies in the field, the Saudi newspaper Sabaq reported.
The newspaper said the large project "pending official approval and authorization to start implementation is expected to complete in 12 months only."
In its report, Sabaq stated that the planned plan is to establish a maritime channel starting from the Salwa border between Saudi Arabia and Qatar to the mouth of Khor Al-Ghadim in the Arabian Gulf. So that the extension of the east coast of Saudi Arabia is complete and unbroken, given that the border with Qatar is 60 km. Which interrupts this extension, which hinders inter-trade and tourism development plans for the region, which is vital as a hub for the Gulf Arab countries.
The channel will be along the border with Qatar and will eliminate all land borders but it will be purely Saudi and no one has any right to it. The channel will be inside Saudi territory about one kilometer from the official border with Qatar, making the land area connected with Qatar a Military protection and surveillance area , although the proposed range is 1 kilometer, but it will be presented to relevant bodies such as the Ministry of Defense and border guards to determine the safe and necessary areas.

The project is considered to be many times the size of Qatar.
The investment project of Riyadh on the borders of Qatar is a "Saudi-Egyptian Emirati" partnership.. "The initial cost of the project was estimated at 2.8 billion riyals", the newspaper said, noting that a giant marine channel would be drilled from Salawi to Khor al-Adid, extending the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia in full and uninterrupted as the border with Qatar is 60 km The only one that cuts this extension, which hinders the inter-trade and tourism development plans for the region, which is vital as a connecting point for the Gulf States. And that there is no going back on the project even if the Qatari crisis is solved..
