Saudi Arabia is studying a major tourism project to build a huge sea canal along the country's border with Qatar, which will turn it into an island and be operated by a Saudi investment consortium of nine companies in the field, the Saudi newspaper Sabaq reported.

The newspaper said the large project "pending official approval and authorization to start implementation is expected to complete in 12 months only."

In its report, Sabaq stated that the planned plan is to establish a maritime channel starting from the Salwa border between Saudi Arabia and Qatar to the mouth of Khor Al-Ghadim in the Arabian Gulf. So that the extension of the east coast of Saudi Arabia is complete and unbroken, given that the border with Qatar is 60 km.
