S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems delivery to India can begin in 2020

S-400 Triumf LR-SAMs Arriving By 2018 For Limited TMD, Plus Six SSNs & Four Batch 3 Project 1135.6 FFGs

As per the IAF’s projections, there exists a requirement for 12 Batteries of the JSC Almaz-Antey-built S-400 (each Battery using four TELs each housing four cannister-encased LR-SAMs), plus five long-range early warning/tracking radars (LRTR). In other words, as per the IAF’s appreciation, a total of FIVE strategic sectors in northern, western and southern India are urgently required to be protected against conventionally armed inbound TBMs and IRBMs like Pakistan’s solid-fuelled single-stage M-11 (Hatf-3/Ghaznavi//DF-11) 280km-range TBMs, and liquid-fuelled single-stage Hatf-5/Ghauri-1/Nodong-1.

Next on the shopping list will be the five LRTRs which, in all probability, will be the EL/M-2090U UHF-band active phased-array systems from Israel Aerospace Industries’ ELTA Systems subsidiary.

It may be recalled that when the MoD-owned DRDO began R & D work in 1996 on a home-grown TMD system, it had ordered two EL/M-2080 ‘Green Pine’ active phased-array L-band LRTRs in late 1998 from IAI/ELTA for target acquisition-cum-engagement, plus a TMD simulation testbed from Israel’s Tadiran Electronic Systems.

Following their deliveries in 2001, the DRDO began co-developing the applications software for a terrestrial TMD architecture and its distributed command-and-control network at a laboratory in Yalavara, Karnataka.

Another inter-governmental agreement (IGA) to be inked in Goa as part of a secret annexure of the contract for building Units 3 and 4 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) concerns the in-country construction of six 5,000-tonne, fifth-generation attack submarines (SSN) designed by the St Petersburg-based FSUE Central Design Bureau RUBIN for Marine Technology. SSNs of this design, powered by 60mWt (about 25mWe) high-density integral pressurised water reactors (PWR), will also enter service with the Russian Navy in the following decade.

It may be recalled the IGA that India and Russia Atomstroyexport signed on November 20, 1988 for the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) officially involved the construction of two 1,000MWe Russian VVER-1000-type light water reactors (at a cost of US$3.5 billion) at Kudankulam in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu State. However, a secret annexure of this contract also called for Moscow to offer its ‘consultancy’ and ‘vendor-development’ services, along with the supply of two KLT-40C PWR mock-ups (built by Afrikantov OKBM and designed to deliver 23.5mWe from the 82.5mWt reactor and using 45% enriched uranium-aluminium alloy, clad in zircaloy), their related heat exchangers and steam generators, plus their detailed engineering drawings off-the-shelf—all for the S-2/Arihant, S-3 and S-4 SSBNs, and similar military-industrial assistance for building the larger S-5, S-6 and S-7 SSBNs, also designed by FSUE Central Design Bureau RUBIN for Marine Technology.

Of the four Batch 3 Project 1135.6 FFGs for the IN, the first two will be built by Kaliningrad-based JSC Yantar Shipyard, while the remaining two will be licence-built by Gujrat-based Reliance Defence and Engineering Ltd (RDEL), formerly Pipavav Defence and Offshore EngineeringCompany Ltd (PDOECL).

PKS on S400 :

To ANUP: The version to be procured will suffice for tackling the TBM & IRBM mentionmed above. The hypersonic 77N6-N and the 77N6-NI missiles that the IAF wants to counter the Shaheen-1/2 & DF-21-type MRBMs are not yet available. So the S-400s meant for delivery to the IAF will make use of SAMs like the 40N6E, the 9M96E2, the 48N6E3 and the 48N6E2.

Russia plans to sign a delivery contract for the S-400 missile system with India before the end of 2016, the head of Russia's Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) said Thursday.

YEREVAN (Sputnik) — He denied rumors that the contract would be signed at the October 15-16 BRICS summit in Goa, noting that the remaining issues with it "have not yet been fully resolved." "We would like to hope for it before the end of 2016," FSMTC Director Alexander Fomin told RIA Novosti at the ArmHitec-2016 arms and defense technologies exhibition in Armenia.

IAI UNVEILS THE NEW ULTRA UHF RADAR FAMILY
Jun 8, 2015

ULTRA C-22 Radar

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) unveiled a unique, highly advanced family of modular Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radars.

The new ULTRA family of AESA UHF radars, developed by IAI's ELTA Systems Group and subsidiary, represents a formidable capability of Early Warning and long range search and tracking of low observable Air Breathing Targets (ABTs), and ballistic missiles. The radars offer an advantage of low RCS targets detection at long ranges, operation under all weather conditions, and in the presence of dense electromagnetic environments.

The ULTRA radars, already operationally proven, use a modular, common UHF-band cluster architecture capable of wide angle electronic scan in both elevation and azimuth. The basic cluster can be modularly scaled to 6 and up to a 22 cluster configuration which offers extended detection ranges and tracking accuracies. Other cluster configurations are possible to meet specific customer's requirements.

The ULTRA-C1 (single cluster configuration) is a lightweight mobile system designed to provide an autonomous search and detection capability up to 500km for a typical fighter aircraft. The ULTRA-C6 (six clusters configuration) is designed for an Early Warning and long range of satellites, ballistic missiles and airborne targets at long ranges, while the ULTRA C-22 (22 clusters configuration) is a strategic system for ballistic missiles and space objects detection and tracking at very long ranges.

The ULTRA radars can be used as autonomous search radar, supporting all defence layers: Air Defence Surveillance for medium range, Early Warning system for long ranges, and a strategic system for very long ranges.

"Ballistic missiles present a significant global threat to nations, expeditionary forces and global peace-keeping missions", explained Mr. Nissim Hadas, IAI Executive VP & ELTA President, "We note increasing requirements worldwide for Early Warning radars, in order to extend the currently available Air Situation Picture and allow commanders and decision makers the valuable extra time for making informed and educated decisions concerning necessary defensive measures."

TERRA dual band radar System
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) unveils "Terra"- a dual-band radar system, for optimization of early-warning, detection and accurate tracking of very long range targets such as ballistic missiles, satellites and air-breathing targets. The TERRA, developed and produced by ELTA Systems Ltd., IAI's Subsidiary and Group, is comprised of the ULTRA UHF band radar (ELM-2090U), unveiled earlier this year, and the new ELM-2090S SPECTRA S-band very-long-range search and track radar. TERRA's enhanced performance is achieved through automatic handover and redundancy between the ULTRA and SPECTRA radars, combined with improved target load sharing, Electronic Counter-Counter Measures (ECCM) and severe-weather resilience.

The new SPECTRA Active Electronic Scanned Array (AESA) radar which can also perform as a standalone system, is a transportable ground-based or shipborne radar system designed to autonomously detect and simultaneously track multiple tactical ballistic missiles. The SPECTRA provides high-accuracy target tracking, and real-time launch point and impact point estimations. The high-power GaN AESA technology implemented in the radar includes thousands of transmit/receive modules that provide high efficiency, reliability and graceful degradation.

"Ballistic and cruise missiles present a significant global threat to nations worldwide, explained Mr. Nissim Hadas, IAI Executive VP & ELTA President.
"The TERRA system provides outstanding performance for its users for very long range early warning, detection and highly accurate tracking. It is designed to confront the full range of modern threats, as the new SPECTRA radar is based on the most advanced modern technology, and provides unique capabilities and excellent operational results, placing it among the best radars worldwide".

@DavidSling

Exactly, I agree

@migflug please note - tag the Israeli partners when Israeli systems are being referred. The partnership is very deep .... though we dont claim it deeper than ocean as we dont have a measurement scale for this partnership, away from public eye:lol:

So now people are claiming a 60 MW reactor to run the SSN.

But when Arihant uses a 83 MW reactor, 'experts' in pdf went overboard claiming that it was underpowerd and cannot reach even 30 knots in speed.

Reference????

@PARIKRAMA you are needed here

Why do we buy Russian maal? Russian stuff is ugly, ill constructed, and a generation behind US tech.

Its also Rugged, cost low, easy to maintain and value for money.

Not rugged, it's prone to breaking down
Not low cost, it's requires constant maintenance. Their engines need to be repaired 4x as much as American
If it breaks down and need constant repairs it's obviously not good value for your money.

A store that sells husbands has just opened where a woman may go to choose a husband from among many men. The store is composed of 6 floors, and the men increase in positive attributes as the shopper ascends the flights.

There is, however, a catch. As you open the door to any floor you may choose a man from that floor, but if you go up a floor, you cannot go back down except to exit the building.

So a woman goes to the shopping center to find a husband.

On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

Floor 1 - These men have jobs.

The woman reads the sign and says to herself, "Well, that's better than my last boyfriend, but I wonder what's further up?" So up she goes.

The second floor sign reads:

Floor 2 - These men have jobs and love kids.

The woman remarks to herself, "That's great, but I wonder what's further up?" And up she goes again.

The third floor sign reads:

Floor 3 - These men have jobs, love kids and are extremely good looking.

"Hmmm, better" she says. "But I wonder what's upstairs?"

The fourth floor sign reads:

Floor 4 - These men have jobs, love kids, are extremely good looking and help with the housework.

"Wow!" exclaims the woman, "very tempting. BUT, there must be more further up!" And again she heads up another flight.

The fifth floor sign reads:

Floor 5 - These men have jobs, love kids, are extremely good looking, help with the housework and have a strong romantic streak.

"Oh, mercy me! But just think... what must be awaiting me further on?" So up to the sixth floor she goes.

The sixth floor sign reads:

Floor 6 - You are visitor 6,875,953,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please.

reported for sexism.
