Hold that thought. You just convince that China are afraid U.S when its just want to be friend with Viet Nam. Why/what make you think that China is the only country, whose has right to make friend and the other doesn't?
Does China always telling other nation truth? Believe me, you better hope that U.S could not goes too far on Viet Nam, if its does, then China will suffers at all cost, all directions.
