Russia to deliver five MiG-29K fighters to India by yearend.

Is there a new weapons package being ordered with the SMT upgrade? Is all of the upgrade work being done in Russia or are the first couple being done in Russia and the rest at HAL?

.
Still, I must say it has no match with F16 BLK 52, which has greater technology, combat range, radar range, greater avionics etc
Why are you comparing a land based air craft to a carrier based one? The Mig 29k is going to operate in areas at high sea where the operability of the F-16(or any other land based fighter) will be extremely restricted.

Back to the topic, glad to see deliveries on time.If only the actual carrier had kept the schedule as well.

No extra weapons are ordered and as far as the upgrade goes, your second point is true:)

. . . . .
How many Mig-19 in IAF? And will IAF buy more?

Mig 19 are no longer in indian service , they were retired in 1980s after induction of Mig29s
Only PLAAF is believed to be still operating copies of Mig19

Currently IAF has 62 Mig29s out of which 6 aircrafts have been upgraded to Mig29smt standard , Remaining 56 are currently undergoing upgrade , which is expected to finish by 2015

The Mig29K/KuB being Discussed in this thread are meant for Indian Navy , which had ordered 45 of them , out of which 11 have been delivered
The article states that another 5 would be delivered by yr end , while rest would be delivered in 2012-13

All the time technology is updated. You can certainly not compare the oldest version of MIG-29 with these new MIG-29.
Most important thing is that Russia is still delivering these fighter planes as per 7 years old contract ....:shout:
