Russia's MiG aircraft maker will deliver a final batch of five MiG-29K/KUB carrier-based fighters to the Indian Navy under a 2004 contract by the end of this year, the company said.

The two countries signed a contract stipulating the supply of 12 single-seat MiG-29Ks and four two-seat MiG-29KUBs to India in January 2004. The contract is part of a $1.5-billion deal to deliver the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier, currently being retrofitted in Russia for the Indian Navy.

"We will fulfill the 2004 contract by the end of this year," MiG General Director Sergei Korotkov said on Friday. "We have already delivered 11 out of 16 aircraft [to India]."

In March 2010, Russia and India signed a $1.5-billion contract on the supplies of 29 additional MiG-29K Fulcrum-D carrier-based fighter jets to New Delhi. The start of the deliveries under the new contract is scheduled for 2012.

The contracts for the jets also stipulate pilot training and aircraft maintenance, including the delivery of flight simulators and interactive ground and sea-based training systems.

The Indian Navy has named its MiG-29K squadron the "Black Panthers." The fighters are based at an airfield in the state of Goa on India's west coast until the Admiral Gorshkov joins the Navy under the name of INS Vikramaditya in early 2013.

The Vikramaditya is expected to carry up to 24 MiG-29K/KUB fighters. The future indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant being built by India may also carry these aircraft.

@Post #2-^^^The Last photo is of the IAF MiG 29SMT and not the IN MiG 29K/KuB:)

. . .
sorry that i didn't know much about IAF,but how can you tell the difference between these two jet

SMT/UPG is basically a deep upgrade of the MiG-29 consisting of a structural changes to the airframe most prominent of it being the dorsal hump, newer avionics and radar, refuelling probe and newer engines. The MiG-29K/KUB is a completely different variant of the MiG-29 designed for operations from an Aircraft Carrier.

Indian Air Force uses the MiG-29 which are being upgraded to the SMT/UPG variant and the Indian Naval Air Arm uses the MiG-29K

.
Basic Mig 29 was for Air to Air Combats.
Mig 29SMT is the enhanced version of Mig29M vairant with air to air and air to ground operations and weapons suits.
Its combat range increased with the increase of internal fuel capacity.
New Modren Pilot to Aircraft interface in the cockpit.
Fly By Wire
Improved Navigations
Radio communications,
Electronic countermeasures,
Monitoring and recording systems
Optronic and reconnaissance pods
Airframe modifications to reduce airframes
New Engine RD-33MK, 7% improved engine then the engines installed in previous versions
Zhuk-ME pulse-Doppler airbone radar [Detect target at Range 120KM] Scanning surface targets which wasnt before, the radar detection range of destroyer-type targets is 250 km and that of missile launcher-type targets is 150 km. Hence beyond visual range (BVR) engage is greatly enhanced
Revised IRST systems
Helmet-mounted target designation system
R-77 AA BVR missiles integration, laser guides, ground bombs and missiles etc

Where as the MiG 29K/KuB is the enhanced variant of Mig 29M for Indian Naval Force.

Still, I must say it has no match with F16 BLK 52, which has greater technology, combat range, radar range, greater avionics etc

why do you bring upon yourself such travesty by making such statement...Most of the members in this forum have good ideas about fighter planes its roles, performance and punch so why compare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These planes will used by Indian navy's air wing and your PN donot have any blk52s so this makes IN better than PN atlest in the air commbats and MIG29 IAF is not the most potent plane in IAF 's inventory its Su30MKI which is better than your f16s.

Why measuring both ? Any reason ? I can also say BLK 52 is no match with Su30MKI,which has greater technology, combat range, radar range, greater avionics etc
