What's new

RUSSIA starts work on second 5th generation fighter.

Is that the MFI? I thought that was cancelled? Does Russia have the funds to develop both this and the PAK-FA, let alone put them into production?

This Mig design looks slick? Is it stealth capable..? seems like from design...

the mig design looks cool because people still havent seen the pakfa yet and t\mig needs to alter abit to integrate the new techs. the pakfa design specs have already being supplied to the manufacture the parameters are given above

Difference between PAK FA and FGFA
The difference between PAK FA and the FGFA will be similar to that between Su-30MK and Su-30MKI. Su-30MK is the commercial version of the Russian Su-30M, where as the Su-30MKI (MKI stands for "Modernizirovannyi Kommercheskiy Indiski" meaning "Modernized Commercial India".) jointly-developed with India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the Indian Air Force. Includes Thrust Vectoring Control (TVC) and canards. Equipped with a multi-national avionics complex sourced from India, Israel, Russia and France[9]. The PAK FA and the FGFA will be having minimum of common technology. Further the FGFA will be predominatly using weapons of Indian origin such as Astra a Beyond Visual Range missile being developed by India. The Indian FGFA is significantly different from the Russian PAK FA because a second pilot means the addition of another dimension, development of wings and control surfaces.

its just that the two countries airforces have different ways of functioning and requirements. its not like one better than other its more like adaptability.

Are indian getting patent right to those planes? Can they sell technologies to third countries like russia will do for sure... Also how much money indians are pouring in (in R&D not the cost of per plane)? Do you have a dollar figure?

.
India is pouring in some 12 billion dollars into the PAKFA project and its a 50-50 project on the lines of Brahmos cruise Missile. Marketing will be done Jointly as the Russians are already settled in the market more than the Indian defense industry.

i think ahmed has given you the dollar figures the planes will be sold only to those countries with the mutual consent if one party opposes it then the deal wont get through. as regarding technology some very high technology will be involved in these so i dont think full technology transfer will be done to 3rd countries in the near future.
thanx:agree:

.
India and Russia have not yet agreed on ToT.Russia wold not allow to transfer technology to third country.

thats what i meant that no technology will be transferred to 3 rd country atleast in the initial few years

.
Yes, Transferring Tech of a 5th gen Stealth Fighter is not an easy matter. hell, even the Americans didnt wanna transfer the tech of the JSF to Britian!!

But the full technology will be transfered between India and russia? Also india is holding the patent right and ownership of the project. If that was the case then, the whole deal is going in favor of Indians, as Indians are only paying 12 billion, which russia could easily make, by selling ready products...

The Indians will be doing their part of the Job, HAL is into the project. Its 50-50 in all sense, not only money. Do u think, any country would sell 5th gen Fighters to any other country just for money? Come on, the Americans were not willing to completely transfer tech to Britain, their biggest ally and only recently agreed to do it. The Russians have an upperhand with India compared to others, they transfer tech becoz they trust India.

Russia could have financed this by itself if there was no global meltdown, but with the current crisis India is essential otherwise Russia has to divert money from other developmental and other projects towards this. Hope u got this.

Still I belive, there must be some string attached. I dont think Russia will agree to this term and they will not let loose the control of the project to Indians (Ofcourse they will not ask India if they want to deal with Venezuela and sell the planes). The deal will not be anything better than US and UK.
Another way of looking at it.. Russia already have other aircraft project lined up.. So they could still deal with Indians in PKAF and they could still go with other projects alone.. So Russia is not really loosing anything here... They will have other aircraft to deal with 3rd parties if at all requried..
