Role reversal: India offers US fighter jet trainer in 1st major defence sales pitch

"lol" I will take the word of 7 internationally reputable sources over what some anonymous Indians claim on the internet, as would much of the world.

You asked me to list the problems, looks like whole world knows about the joke....

Could please look at the dates?

Also, it is all about requrements of airforce!

Just take a example - JF 17 is made by china for Pakistan with inputs from PAK but china does not need the same because they have better aircarfts compare to Jf 17.

The same goes to IAF, HAL Tejas MK1 and JF 17 block 2 , both comes on same class but IAF is not ready to accept and looking better aircraft. Now, HAL is offering more capable HAL Tejas MK1a as similar as Jf17 block 3............. So now IAF is ready to accept in a large numbers (83).

But still wants more capable as HAL Tejas MK2...

Basically, all depends on your requirement!

But can USN take it NLCA as LIFT with Israeli/French avionics etc etc

Why? US could design a better plane, more cheaply, with their own equipment in less the 10% of the time LCA took. They have literally 60 years of catapualt based carrier experiance, India has zero.

This whole thread, is a joke, just like the LCA ironically.....

No, HAL is making fun of herself.

Again it is all about requirements! USA is more then capable to make and build much better aircraft then NLCA. USA should be a last country to talk import aircraft from any other country.

India has offered a modified version of NLCA for US Navy for trainer aircrafts.
9/12/2020

In a reversal of roles, India has offered the US a fighter jet trainer required by its navy for pilot training on aircraft carriers, marking the first major weapons sales pitch by New Delhi to Washington. The Indian offer is for the Undergraduate Jet Training System (UJTS) for which the US Navy has launched a global search.

ET has learnt that India responded to the official Request for Information (RFI) with a Lead in Fighter Trainer (LIFT) version of the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft. The aircraft on offer brings in experience gained by Indian developers from the naval version of the LCA that has successfully demonstrated operations from an aircraft carrier.

While the US is still evaluating the offer, India sent in a detailed project plan, which includes advanced avionics that enable the LIFT LCA to mimic almost all types of fighter jets, from cockpit display layout to control performances.

“We have done all the work in house,” Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) chairperson R Madhavan told ET. “The same platform can be used to mimic any other platform. All that needs to be done is put in the flying characteristics and things will change to the selected aircraft. For example, if they Rafale characteristics, to the pilot it will seem like he is flying Rafale, which will help in the advanced training process.”

The aircraft on offer is based on the LCA Mk 1A that is on order by the Indian Air Force and a demonstrator can be produced if the US Navy goes ahead with the selection process and shortlists it for the next step, which is formal request for proposals (RFP).

While India will be going against a clutch of global manufacturers with a history of developing trainers, developers feel there is an even chance for success as an aircraft of the type does not currently exists. In addition, the LCA is one of the few jets in the world that has a demonstrated capability of operating from an aircraft carrier.

As per the US Navy RFI, the LCA meets all basic parameters being asked for, which includes an operational aircraft capable of field carrier landing practice and carrier touch and go events. The naval version of the LCA has been tested extensively on both at the shore-based testing facility in Goa as well as the INS Vikramaditya.

With the LIFT version of LCA expected to meet both domestic and worldwide demands, plans are underway to produce a demonstrator aircraft along with the upcoming order for 83 LCA Mk 1 as that is being placed by the air force and is expected to be signed this financial year.

The US has been a significant exporter of military equipment to India, ranging from transport aircraft to artillery guns and attack helicopters. There has been a strong pitch by US arms manufacturers to gather a bigger slice of the India market, with offers in place for new fighter jets, unmanned combat aerial vehicles and air defence systems among others.

When I was growing up there used to be a tv show from Allama Iqbal open university called tractor repair. The narration went some thing like yeah tractor hai, Isley du piya Hota hai, agaey Wallay chota Hotta hai aur pichey wala bara hota hai. This program was broadcasted to over 50 countries including Japan where the tractor was made. The question the Japanese had was why are these people telling us this!

in the same Vein the India the biggest importer of weapons, a country that has never built any military equipment that it’s own military wants is trying to sell an over priced aircraft that is 4 times as expensive to fly then any contemporary US aircraft.

why why why, has all the Indian thinkers fled India ..... were all the smart people in India minorities ....

And the trainer was launched just a couple of years back, in its 10 year operational life. Where had you been training your pilots before? So much for fully operation.

The wings need re-enforcements even before MLUs. You looking for Italian assistance in electronics and engines. All that, when those planes hardly had any life yet.
using FT-7 and sims
wings were not re-enforced for block1
only block 2 had wing reinforcement, simply because block1 didn't need wing re-enforcement(payload was 3.5 tones for block 1[lack of air refuel meant lower payload] and 4.5 tones for block2)

anyone who can read and write would get this
mean while i heard HAL won the contract already

This thread needs to be moved to the comic section. HAL has made a mockery of itself by making this sales pitch. A good sales man should know what when where and who to sell. When was the last time USA bought a Plane from another country?

I saw the video LCA SPORT (awful name) but looks modern. The US Navy will never pick a supersonic delta wing trainer as a UJTS replacement for the aging GOSHAWK - its too dangerous.
Plus I believe stealth capability is sought in the NAVAIR RFI so it will look likely something like this...

It looks like a Talon with stealth modifications. Very pretty bird.

@RAMPAGE Look at your Indian buddies trying to sell their best weapon to US Navy LOL

Front line service with 3 air forces. Tejas still not fully operational with the IAF. This is not a hill you want to die on, it really is not.....
Pakistan, Nigeria, Myanmar.. No offense to any but we are not really talking about g-20 nations here, if you wanna buy a foreign aircraft why not buy one which is cutting edge, not like you are gaining in r&d here that part is handled by the chinese

.
troll they have different operational requirements, (China is 4th largest country of the world by area) they need bigger jets to to cover vast swath of their country with better payload/range/electronics, and JFT is specially designed for PAF by China, use your brain if you have
Atleast you are agreeing it was DESIGNED BY CHINA FOR PAF. And the better aircraft not needed by paf logic is b.s., paf would buy more f-16s/other advanced western fighters at a heartbeat, it's just the cash and trust factor here, you guys need a cheap option(being a bottom tier economy) from a trustworthy vendor
Remember the times in 60s and 70s you guys always had the more advanced aircraft compared to IAF

.
Chief designer is chinese, you guys were cheering him on using pom poms :bunny:don't see in what way Pakistan can help except for giving requirements lol
Tejas is designed in France with American engines and Israeli radar with 10 times the population of Pakistan and begging US
Still can’t produce a fighter with50% Indian content
But I guess your best engineers are busy at this

Nigeria and Myanmar all rejected the Tejas for being low tech...

That is 3 more nations that Tejas (no offense), also (something many Indian posters conveniantly forget), JF-17 was a F-7/Mirage replacement programme. It was designed as a light weight fighter (very much like the F-5), so could be bought cheaply and in numbers. By no means an F-16 replacement. PAF have project AZM for that. If you look at it in terms of replacing Nigerian F-7s for example, it is a massive leap in capability.

When we were superior, and i am not a fanboys that says JFT is 100% INDIGENOUS just like you guys that being told by your govt tell that Tej@$$ is 100% INDIGENOUS we have a inputs on JFT project
And you know we had a lost decade for PAF and for pressler admament after 2000 USA tilted toward India to contain China
