@SarthakGanguly i have a paid version of instructibles and I downloaded a copy of a simple arduino project for you. I can email it to you (it has step by step instructions) may be you can start off with that?

Arduino is a very good base to start off on robotics, actuators and controllers. In fact, arduino is just a "tool" that a person with a good insight can use to develop DARPA level stuff.

pretty strange that someone mentioned "The guys at DARPA, are the ones who understand the above, not the ones who fool about with actuators and Arduino boards" - DARPA looks at innovations in so many different areas (including developing low cost electronics) you will be surprised at the number of micro controller device - powered projects get endorsed by DARPA

There are so many problems in Pakistan that can be solved by AI implementations. The cost of living is low, so why not come up with a nice idea and start your own venture?

Some ideas:

1. Integrate pattern detection into restaurant PoS systems to help them understand which dishes are ordered at what times and days. They can manage their ingredients better, avoid food wastage and lower serving times.
2. Collect crime data from police - organize and find patterns by crime type and area. Allow people to subscribe to crime reports in their area to stay informed.
3. Check with companies doing geological research for mineral exploration, they could certainly use his talent
4. Military research - strategic planning systems, game theory, drone development, computer-assisted visions, motion detectors, etc
5. Urdu / Pashto / Punjabi / Sindhi, etc voice recognition implementations
6. There's a lot of raw data sitting around everywhere which is aching to be analyzed

DARPA sponsors those progras you mentioned for their public outreach. To popularise robotics among every day people. They're not using Arduino boards in their own research

I'm not being arrogant, I'm sorry if I came across like that. All I'm saying is if one day you have the dream of joining an organisation like DARPA, you need to have a strong grasp on the meat of robotics. But I applaud your work Please don't think I am trying to denigrate it in any way.

Some of the best use of Robotics for countries like us is for monitoring the Public Distribution System - if it is monitored by bots, chances of deliberate corruption will be much less. For example, in India, instead of a human ombudsman, a Robot will be a better alternative.

@kbd-raaf - I will drag you to your early non geek days: how were you initiated into the world of Robotics/AI? How was the first project? Which platform or approach did you follow?

I can understand that Arduino is nothing but a kit that gets various components together, brands them under a franchise and sells. iSmart

My first project was the remote controlled car. It was quite simple to be honest, the guidelines were available on the Internet and it was just a matter of fitting them into the materials which I had at my disposal.

Since then I have done a couple of home automation projects for fun. My house's windows are all opened and closed through our phones. We can set our airconditioning, lights and alarm through the phones too. These didn't really have instructions online, but it's not too difficult to figure out. If you decide to use an Arduino or RPi board to do home automation work I can give you a hand

BTW I didn't set up our automated air conditioning, that was done by a company here. I got interested in projects like that afterward and did the windows etc. HVAC automation is probably the most difficult off the top of my head.

I used a Raspberry Pi and Arduino. RPi was the processor, Arduino was the interface.

At uni, I've created the AI for an intelligent quadcopter. This was done in collaboration with 3 other guys, to be honest, I only did the implementation of their work. I can show you guys some of our simulations that we ran on matlab.
