Retired Lieutenant-Colonel mocking deaths of Pakistanis drowned in Greece

The tragedy is also a reflection of the state of total lawlessness in Pakistan.

Everyone knows who the illegal immigration agents are—that’s how people can freely contact them and buy their services. But the corrupt system created by the generals and their criminal politicians looks the other way. They even get a cut from the crooks.

The police and state administration is busy kidnapping innocent civilians and torturing, murdering and raping them. But they don’t have time to arrest the illegal immigration agents.

Any clue on how they could have travelled out of Pakistan and across many borders without a passport or ID? It requires some serious corruption to let them fly out of the country without any papers.

What I’ve heard is that they fly to Dubai or somewhere and then to Egypt. Then they travel to Libya from where they take a boat.

So these people have passports and visas to those countries. Many, if not most, are probably educated and from decent families. They’re just not qualified enough to get immigration from Western countries.

Mr Mehmood said his son did not have any travel document, or an identity card or passport, but the people who organised the trip flew him off from central city of Faisalabad.

Many foreign countries have now been implementing exams to weed out the good and bad from the educated class. I have heard during interviews at the embassy their given test questions in regards to their field of study.

Why go through that trouble. Just ask them to send SAT/GRE/GMAT scores directly to the embassy and give Visa to those above cutoff scores.

I would agree; however, some talented individuals are poor test takers while some are good test takers but not up to par; hence it becomes an ineffective system. (I know of many individuals, one in particular, who was brilliant in mathematics but failed every other subject except math and was forced to quit college. An Ivy League professor discovered him through a mutual friend, they took him into their Ph.D. program, and now he's working at Citadel Securities. He always travels with Kenneth Griffin as he breaks things down for him. His annual salary last time I spoke to him was around $ 1,500,000 yearly base without other bonuses, etc., taken into consideration. So while he was a poor test taker, he was brilliant. So exams do not tell the whole story.)

By checking their knowledge and test scores together, you can be confident you will retain the cream of the crop or those who will excel rapidly in their studies abroad.

By checking their knowledge
And how do the embassy folks do that? They are glorified clerical staff whose main job is to receive and send cables, arrange hotel and transport for VIPs and make some inane comments once in a while. Anything that needs brains is done in Foggy Bottom (or the equivalent).

This is what we think. But last few years, operations have been changed at embassies and consulates. They do have experts and schedule interviews in batches. Know a few grilled before their passports were stamped with a visa. Now it's not everyone, but they pick people to check. There is a reason why medical doctors were restricted from going to the West a few years back, and Pakistan was forced to spend more on bringing them up to standard.

(Yawn)

You sound like a broken record...

Damn.

So feisty, eh?!

You're living in fool's paradise if you think Imran Khan's government was, in fact, a civilian rule, heh!
Oky small pond fish..

The very next paragraph says:

He said his son stayed two days in Dubai, then six days in Egypt, before boarding a plane to Libya that was so crammed it had people sitting on the floor.

No one can stay in Dubai and then fly to Egypt and then fly to Libya without a passport. If he didn't have an ID or passport it means that the travel agent got a fake (or real) passport. Government officials are obviously involved in the whole business.

Yes, and at a deep level. It is not easy to forge passports to hoodwink Dubai, Egypt and Libya immigration what with Biometrics and all that. So, you are looking at a parallel underground criminal 'government'.

Let me tell you; they are a Syed family.

Recently, I've given him money to get his visa and tickets and search for a job in Dubai

I'm not sure what the point of them being a "Syed family" is for?

You're much kinder than I am. May those who raised you be blessed.

Thanks! Yeah, going to edit that; there was another thread I was talking about Syed's not begging per hadith, and for some reason got added here, too, I guess; it's one of those things on my mind getting written.

Yes as per our customs we cannot take zakat funds even if we are dirt poor, but other support can be accepted.
