Repaired 10025 SAAB and 4th ZDK revealed to public

This attack was a shamefull chapter i paf history...

Within parliment it was stated that one had minor shrapnel damage... and one may be written off....
Than later they said that the one that was to be written off by saab, has successfully been repaired....and is flying

I am exactly saying to believe in what secretory of defence said in parliment under oath....
please dont make up facts unless you have a solid reason to doubt what parliment has been told....
@Bratva

“The quality of the country’s defence production is second to none in the world. It is evident from the fact that two Awacs (Airborne Warning and Control System) damaged in a terrorist attack on Kamra airbase have been locally repaired at a minimum cost though the supplier had refused to repair the aircraft because of the severity of the damage,” he said.

India’s arms deal with US a hurdle in way of peace, says senator - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

is this a blatant lie than? please post source of claim also

Where did I say it was a blantant lie ? It is consistent with the claims one completely destroyed, 2 damaged. 1 remained unscathed. 2 damaged were repaired.

Tax-payers kept in the dark about loss of plane worth $250m

http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-Ne...t-in-the-dark-about-loss-of-plane-worth-$250m

ISLAMABAD: The February 6 admission by senior officials of the defence ministry that a Saab-2000 aircraft fitted with an Airborne Early Warning & Control System (AWACS) was totally destroyed in the August 15, 2012 terror attack on the Kamra airbase, implies that the concerned authorities had been keeping the tax payers in the dark for the past six months by claiming that it was only the nose cone of the precious aircraft which had been partially damaged and that it would be repaired by the manufacturers in Sweden.

The fact that the Kamra airbase raiders had completely destroyed one of the four Saab-2000 AWACS planes was made public for the first time by Additional Secretary Defence Rear Admiral Farrokh Ahmad during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defence on February 6, six months after the Minhas airbase at Kamra was attacked by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.

The meeting was chaired by President Zardari’s sister, Azra Fazal Pechuho, as the chairperson of the 18-member Committee. Responding to a question by Ayaz Ameer, one of the Standing Committee members, Rear Admiral Farrokh Ahmad conceded that a Saab-2000 AWACS which was parked at the Minhas airbase was completely destroyed by “miscreants” when the Kamra came under attack.

When asked by Ayaz Ameer to further enlighten the Committee on the issue, Secretary Defence Lt Gen (R) Asif Yaseen Malik admitted that one fourth early warning ability of the PAF was knocked out by the raiders with the ruining of one of the four Swedish-made Saab-2000 planes.

But the secretary defence did not respond to Ayaz’s query about the actual loss suffered by the national kitty due to the ruining of Saab-2000 AWACS. As The News asked PAF spokesman Group Captain Tariq Mahmood about the likely price of the Saab-2000, he sought a couple of days to collect the required information. Asked about the price of the Saab-2000 AWACS, a senior PAF official said while requesting anonymity that the perished plane was worth 130-140 million US dollars. But a highly placed defence ministry official differed with the figure, saying that the plane destroyed at Kamra was worth 250 million US dollars.

However, a senior defence ministry official said on the condition of anonymity that the Saab-2000 AWACS destroyed at Kamra was worth $250 million. Ayaz Ameer, a former army captain, estimated the price of Saab-2000 somewhere between 250 and 300 million US dollars.

It was on the night of August 15, 2012 that nine fidayeen attackers dressed in military uniforms and armed with rocket propelled grenades and suicide vests, stormed the Minhas airbase. Minhas remained under attack for two hours and finally culminated in the death of two PAF personnel and all the nine attackers who were successful in their mission of destroying one of the Saab-2000 AWACS planes.

TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was carried out to avenge the killings of Baitullah Mehsud and Osama bin Laden. The fidayeen, Ehsan had declared, succeeded in achieving their targets and had delivered a lethal blow to the PAF. But neither Ehsan explained “the lethal blow” inflicted by TTP nor did the PAF deem it fit to concede the destruction of the Saab 2000 aircraft.

Following the attack, PAF spokesman Tariq Mahmood conceded that at least one of the rockets fired by the attackers hit a hangar holding PAF aircrafts. “The rocket pierced the hangar wall while shrapnel from the blast damaged one of the aircraft parked inside. But I cannot reveal the name of the craft… please wait for the inquiry report”, said the spokesman. But the finding of the inquiry, which was ordered by Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt and conducted by Air Marshal Athar Hussain Bukhari, has yet to be made public.

Hours after attack, Defence Minister Naveed Qamar said on August 15, 2012, that the death toll of the militants and the minimal damage caused to the base was clear proof of the preparedness of the Pakistani forces.

Talking to newsmen in Islamabad, Qamar said: “The security of the PAF was alert to retaliate in case of a possible attack and they did. The terrorists had suicide vests clasped around them and were carrying heavy arms. However, with minimum damage caused to the Pakistani assets – with only one plane damaged – the security forces were able to eliminate the terrorists.”

Naveed Qamar, however, did not mention the fact that the plane destroyed at Kamra was a Saab 2000 worth $240 million.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik was next to claim on August 17, 2012 that due to the advance warnings about a possible attack on the PAF installations, the attempt to harm the Pakistani assets at Kamra was foiled and all the attackers were killed. Kamra is one of the most important airbases of PAF which also hosts the 33 multi-role fighter wing of the PAF, one squadron of JF-17 and one squadron of FT-6 trainers. It was in October 2005 that the Pakistan government had struck a deal to purchase five Saab-2000 planes.

The first of these was delivered to the PAF on December 29, 2009, and the second one in April 2011, which was followed by two others. And the prime aim of the TTP fidayeen was to locate and destroy one such valuable plane which was parked at Minhas airbase.

you might be right.....
but there are also chances that I am right :-)

the totally destroyed plane and the one swedes wanted to right off and now has been repaired may be the same one....10025..
the other one had minor shrapnel damage....
no body has declared a right off so far.... and the news article you posted is not the actual news but an deservingly angry response to the news

but its true and really sory episode in PAF history....

I still cannot digest that no generals and base commander was not hanged for negligence, and even more shameful is the fact that few NCO's were courtmartialed for this.....

when will we learn????

After keeping my mouth shut for so long but i finally decided to share this info which was known to me for quite a long time .Im sorry i dont know the number of planes but bear with me.

1. Was completely destroyed (complete Plane/Antenna Panels destroyed Mission Successful India)
2. RPG hit direct on the cone (Antenna and panels were salvaged)
3. Swear damage on Antenna as result of RPG hits .(Plane was salvaged)
4. Probably was in the air .(Good God)
5. 2 PC3 Orion total loss .(Navy gets the replacement from US but Alas)

Today the word used for repair is commendable but it's a sad day as these assets were bought with hard earned money neglecting poor's to see thru our survival .

Initial assessment after attack was done to see what could be salvaged .One Antenna along with major panels were saved from direct cone hit plane and it was decided the VIP escort plane brought with the same package will be converted into Erieye .Second with Antenna and panels destroyed but plane was not beyond repair it took a while to pull these stuff from open market and Chinese help of course so this was repaired so as per my assessment not from Info by any one we will have 3 Erieye in our inventory .So from Total of 4 Erieye and 1 Saab 2000 VIP plane we lost I Erieye and plane along with our self Esteem and another Millions of Dollars . My heart cries just not because some body should have been hanged but Morality demands stepping down of some one very senior to take responsibility .We as nation always lie and even not sincere with ourselves .

I dont agree to type of celebrations people are planning to do for Erieye (Why our forces always try to portray itself as heroes) we respect them but we also give our heart/Soul/money to them and in return we just want the truth .Like PPP ,PAF was also sleeping at that time let's admit it ,I am sorry if i hurted someone but this grief was in my heart for last 4 years so i thought to share with all

Assalam o Alaikum

Man look brand new as if never got hit.
Job well done by PAF.

Wonder who could have benefited by striking our strategic and tactical arsenal and inventory. Which btw is already very minute in numbers.:azn:

Navy and air force both have been very careless when it comes to protecting surveillance aircraft
it goes back to 1999 Atlantique Incident. The aircraft was flying close to the border unescorted, then the mehran base attack and then the kamra attack. The loss goes above $150 million.

.
Its not a big deal....people fail to their job...and this happens frequently ...and every where...

It would have been good if base commander and few other general level officers were court martialled and paid for their laps.....

Things go hay wire when we try to protect generals and make excuses.... this must stop

This must stop for ever....

U $crew up ...we $crew your career and life even more.... thats it

Write off is a relative term. One of the planes was a write off at initial assessment. Later on they concluded that they could repair it and they did.

.
No, 4 Saab, 4 ZDK as ZDK were delivered in 2 phases, Last two were delivered in 2014 so total 4 ZDK in PAF Inventory :police:

3 SAAB's are in working condition. One was lost beyond repairs in that terrorist attack.

There is no write off ... That rumour has no grounds
this one is the written off one....
2 other had minor damage only

He is giving you the right details. In fact, I just responded to someone giving out the same number. My number and @Bratva 's number match on the dot. Only 3 Saab's are operational, 4th one is gone....

If funds permit (*cricket chirps*) ... would the PAF convert the transport/VIP Saab 2000 into an Erieye AEW&C? Or would it try to bring the AEW&C fleet to the originally planned force of 8 with ZDK03 (or hopefully KJ500)?

Sir it would be better to convert VIA Saab 2000 into an Erieye AEW&C as PAF already familiar with Saab systems also it will be a boost in relations with Saab any maybe in near future PAF go for Gripen or any other Saab based system?
just saying .......

JF 17 block 3 will serve the purpose of Gripen NG. No need for acquisition of another aircraft.

.
Confusing confusing

Simply to say

At that time, there were Five Saab2000 in PAF arsenal. Four AWACS one VIP

During attack one AWACS was completely destroyed, one was severely damaged while it's sensitive systems survived. One was slightly damaged. One AWACS was in air. And VIP one remain untouched......? Now the one back in action is the one which was severely damaged.

So we have total four Saab2000 now. Three AWACS, one VIP

Correct?

.
How do we know PAF is not spreading disinformation here?
