My friend, for me General Zia was an enemy and that's the way I view him and that's the way my Generals war planned. There are no love/hate and hurt sentiments, as he was afterall an enemy we knew and prepared contingencies accordingly. It is a big population of hurt Pakistanis that you should be more sypathetic to. Foreign enemy's armies don't have hurt sentiments, they develope plans and strategies to kill the enemy.Thats reinforce most of Pakistani beliefs that Zia was a true hero-he did or atleast tried something which still hurts the sentiments of the foreign enemies even after two decades of his death-
Zia Is Buried Before a Muted and Prayerful Throng - NYTimes.com
Beneath the four white marble minarets of a mosque that looms over this capital, President Mohammad Zia ul-Haq was buried today in a military funeral attended by at least 100,000 Pakistanis.
Diplomats from more than 70 nations, including 30 heads of state, stood in withering heat as the casket was lowered to the sounds of a 21-gun salute that echoed over the valley city. President Zia and 38 others were killed on Wednesday when a Pakistani military plane exploded.
A huge, surging throng of Pakistanis packed roads leading to the burial site, the Faisal Mosque at the foot of the Margalla hills. Thousands more were held back by stick-wielding police at the mosque, a gift from Saudi Arabia that opened only two months ago.
As the gun carriage carrying the flower-bedecked casket left the President's official residence and rolled slowly along the five-mile route to the mosque, the waiting crowds groaned, chanted prayers, wept and shouted, ''Pakistan! Pakistan!'' A Mood of Ambivalence..

I spend most prt of the day in front of the TV that day when General Zia's Funeral was being Broadcasted Live from Islamabad.
One of his Favourit TV anchor / News reader Azhar Lodhi was doing commentery on loud apeakers at the premesis of his burial, and it was an emotional commentary..Eventually he had to be removed from the mic as he was crying too hard for the comfort of the crowd.
More than 30 heads of state from Around the world were there, mostly from Muslim countries and this has never happened before or since for any other Pakistani, not even for the world famous Benazir Bhutto..Her Funeral wasnt attended by any foreign deligate, but general zia's funeral was attended by the whole world.
I remember that the largest foreign Deligation at his funeral was from Turkey , almost every Turkish minister including their President and Prime mnister was there at the Funeral, and Turkish Prime minister was crying with greif as if his own brother had died...literally.
I remember scenes of utter mismanagement.Heads of state not receiving any protocol and many just walking on their own unescortyed to Zia's grave, and then back to their seats under a makeshift tent...
Ever wondered why General Zia was so world popular?
He was a saint and greatest Muslim soldier ever. A true Ghazi. May Pakistan be blessed with many more leader like him.
More even before the lasting damage he does to his nation, a Military Dictator actually does the greatest dis service to the very organization that he grew in - The Military.
He violates the Army Act, the constitution and throws to the wind all the rule books when he unlawfully takes over control.
Yet he stands judgement on others and passes sentences on the ' flaws' of others.

Anyone who watched PTV remembers what azhar lodhi said: ABBA JEEEE and cried, blind followers now people can enjoy the extremism mullahism, fatwaism, Pakistan now being called land of the blowing people, literally.

Worst thing that happened to Pakistan was PPP (Zulfiqar who caused Pakistan to lose Bengal, Benazir who helped indians break the Khalistan freedom movement, and Zardari/Benazir duo who caused Pakistan to be one of the poorest countries in the world).
If it wasn't for General Zia, Soviets would have made Afghanistan and western half of Pakistan part of its empire, and india would have taken Punjab, Sindh, and Azad Kashmir. The Soviets was a threat to Pakistan's very existence and they loved india.
it is a well known fact that benazir simply handed over the lists and whereabouts f sikh freedom fighters to india "because zia started it"...kindly post source for bolded part
What you consider "well known facts" are known as rumors the world over. So unless, you substantiate your claims with proper credible sources, those "facts" will be treated as rumors.it is a well known fact that benazir simply handed over the lists and whereabouts f sikh freedom fighters to india "because zia started it"...
I remember the full transmission as if it happened yesterday and he never said ABBA JEE,,,Zia was almost the same age as him so it didn't make sense..
How many "Isms" you came up with...surprises me...
Can you define all those "Isms" for our enlightenment?
My Friend, find the transmission recording he did say abba jee several times. ask dear zia for bringing his version of islam along with saudi version along with all elements of destabilization across the border-middle east-central asians, settling them in FATA, you reap what you sow, enjoy I reserve my comment-opinion I am not impressed with people thanking due to zia we have F-16s/AH-1s infact it was the demand-need of the hour which were requested and provided not that it was a special favor by US to zia...
