R&D neglected in Muslim countries

The only Muslim country that has some significant R&D is Tunisia (surprisingly), standing at 1.10% of the nation's GDP. The rest of them are negligible or non-existent.

The figures are also low for other, non-Muslim, developing countries. Only the developed countries have the luxury of spending money on R&D. One could argue that R&D is a necessity, not a luxury, but then the same admonishment would apply to non-Muslim countries.

Well, any Tom, Dick or Harry can edit that crap

And any Tom, Dick and Harry that relies on Wikipedia only proves that he is a Tom, Dick and Harry.

And if you want a "reliable" source, it is here:
Research and development expenditure (% of GDP) | Data | Table

Please, for the love of God, don't say that the World Bank is an "infidel" site.

It is still not. Why? Because it is mostly incomplete. If you know how to read tables, go to the right most column. Most entries are empty because of lack of information.

And yes, so called World Bank is an infidel organization. How come you did not know it? Do you know who Paul Wolfowitz was? How come he became WB's president? How come every president (by a tacit rule) of WB and IMF have been a US and some European citizen for the last six decades? How come both of them are based in the den of Western evil? How come all employees from entry level to above are either Western citizens, Western educated (mostly in USA) and MUST BE highly familiar with Western norms, customs, culture and practise?

But besides the Western world being infidel, your list is incomplete. An infidel country like France has no entry on the rightmost column (for the period 2007-2011). Does it mean France invested nothing or an insignificant % on R&D during that period? Use your brain instead of searching Western ""official" sites for info all the time. Not every bit of information can be found in English, or on the Internet.

For a conspiracy theorist like you, yes it is. Not for normal people.

We know your IQ is low but you do not need to prove that repeatedly with exotic displays of idiocy.

There is no way to excuse the low Muslim R&D investments principally because the wealthy Muslim countries CAN invest greater amounts BUT the list is incomplete as I have discussed earlier.

I am not going to waste my time further on any imbecile that uses Wikipedia to further his argument or for use as a source of information.

Fine example of Wikipedia BS (which also includes 'sources' cited for info listed) is given below

Lol yes am border line retarded.

I knew it all along. You are an Indian, your style of 'argumentation' is also Indian.

True, the list is incomplete but, as you agreed, Muslim countries should invest more, if only because they have a lot of catching up to do.

P.S. You make good points, just ease up on the 'infidel' angle. It tends to distract from the substance of your posts.

Three new emerging economies joined this Forecast in 2012: Malaysia, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia. :angel:Starting from relatively small commitments (R&D expenditures at less than 1.0% of gross domestic product), each intends to increase its funding over the next several years to reflect the R&D ratios of more innovation-oriented economies.

:lol:I wonder if this infidle report will be welcomed or thrown down the trash.

Research output is increasing in the Muslim world.

The SCImago Journal & Country Rank is a portal that includes the journals and country scientific indicators developed from the information contained in the Scopus® database (Elsevier B.V.). These indicators can be used to assess and analyze scientific domains.

1996 research paper output by country included only 3 Muslim countries in top 50:

26 - Turkey
37 - Egypt
42 - Saudi Arabia

The number had increased to 7 in 2010:

18 - Turkey
19 - Iran
28 - Malaysia
41 - Egypt
43 - Pakistan
46 - Saudi Arabia
50 - Tunisia

This will hopefully get better now that nations in Arabian have started to take serious interest in R&D.

I think we agree on most issues.

Mate, that report is from a country from the Western Axis of evil, hence disqualified as an infidel report.

SCImago is a research group from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), University of Granada, Extremadura, Carlos III (Madrid) and Alcalá de Henares, dedicated to information analysis, representation and retrieval by means of visualisation techniques.

As well as SJR Portal, SCImago has developed The Atlas of Science project, which proposes the creation of an information system whose major aim is to achieve a graphic representation of IberoAmerican Science Research. Such representation is conceived as a collection of interactive maps, allowing navigation functions throughout the semantic spaces formed by the maps.

Good post. Indeed, I hope the outlook for scientific research in the Muslim world improves, for there is no 'end' to improvements of human endeavours. At the same time, we must be aware of the limitations we are imposing in our calculations by the use of any one or limited number of indicators from only one particular source or source from one particular part of the world.

Also, SJR has not yet updated their figures for 2011, the latest applicable year. Iran has improved its rank considerably, for example, and do not forget, that Elsevier is also Western. Muslims ought to start using and relying upon Muslims' own journal indexation services (some of which have been started by Iran as Iran has been one of the leading countries for Islamic world wide scientific research improvement) but most Muslims are either unaware, or feel they need to rely on infidels like Westerners.

Ranking Universities of the Islamic World Website

They have created the ISC already but most other Muslim countries are either ignorant or disinterested to help improve the project.

Malaysia, Iran, Turkey, Indonesia, Tunisia are some of the leaders in the Muslim world in this aspect. Maybe other Arab countries after the "Arab Spring" will focus more on this issue. Meanwhile, secular countries like Bangladesh are even worse than India in this aspect. Secularism is at fault.
