PTI wins byelection in Faisalabad

Khursheed loses majority, may face no-trust

The opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah has lost the support of the majority of the members belonging to the opposition parties in the House.

Consequently, he will have to face a ‘no trust’ move in the next sitting of the National Assembly. The second major group in the opposition camp comprising the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), independents and five parties having one member each are siding with the PTI.

The group has outnumbered the PPP provided the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) opts to stay neutral in the battle and does not side with the PPP. The PTI could propose its leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi or a member from the allied parties for the office of the opposition leader in the National Assembly. Once the ‘no-trust’ move is put up, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will determine the support of the majority before bringing a change.

Syed Khurshid Shah was picked by his party by disregarding Makhdoom Amin Fahim as the leader of opposition.Well placed sources told The News that the ruling parliamentary party is scared of PTI leader Imran Khan in confronting him as leader of the opposition and right from the beginning made moves to keep him away from the berth of the opposition leader. Imran Khan is reportedly not interested in the slot but the members of the opposition aren’t comfortable with the incumbent leader. Most of the opposition members including PTI, MQM and other groups have been claiming that they aren’t taken into confidence in decision making on behalf of opposition. The PTI leader Shireen Mazari has also complained that leader of the opposition doesn’t take into confidence her party about the major decisions. She complained that the majority members of the opposition aren’t aware of the moves made by the opposition leader for consultations with the leader of the House on the question of appointment of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman. The situation isn’t acceptable, she maintained.

Meanwhile, the government has decided not to summon the National Assembly or Senate sessions soon. It appears that the two houses would meet after Eid holidays. The majority members of the opposition would approach the speaker for change of the opposition leader. It is unlikely that the speaker will entertain the submission supposed to be made by the majority members of the opposition since the ruling party is opposed to the idea of change, the sources said.

It is understood that the speaker reluctance in accepting the demand of the majority would force the majority members of the opposition to knock at the doors of the judiciary for redress.

Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rashid Ahmad had extensive consultations with the fellow members in opposition during the last session and it was decided by them to move in the next sitting of the house. Interestingly anti-Khurseed Shah lobby had mustered the majority in the meantime. The conduct of the current leader of the opposition in appointment of NAB chairman has proved to be the last straw on the camel’s back, the sources said.

that is a brilliant idea, that is where we can all agree but Sh Rasheed has been showing attitude toward PTI as if he won the seat at his own, it wasnot possible without PTI support, he should acknowledge it.

But this is also reality that Imran khan won in Rawalpindi with the support of Sheikh Rasheed :) Otherwise there was no chance in NA56
