What's new

PTI absorbs Junoobi Punjab Suba Mahaz after promise for South Punjab

IK will force local body elections very early on and put the money down to local level, as per the constitution. If that happens for a while, provincial assemblies will eventually loose a lot of power.

Power is where the money is. Strong local bodies will kill provincial system eventually.

This all can be done without a 2/3 majority. It's already in the constitution. Breaking in to smaller provinces makes it easier to pull this transfer of power.

Wait and see - this will happen.

Plus the Federal gov can impose Governor rule if these new joiners don't tow the line in strengthening the local bodies.

Much easier to do with small provinces.

I thought you meant US of A by presidential system.

I'm not against Presidential form of government but I think the people of Pakistan should be familiarised with smaller administrative units first before moving on to a more radical change towards presidential system.

This way, it shall become a step wise change and easier to implement.

The Swedish model I wasn't aware of when I mentioned the ceremonial provinces with ceremonial governors for keeping Pakistan's nationalists happy, lol, that's so neat that the Swedish already have a similar arrangement.
Yup, it should be introduced in a stepwise manner. PTI should make a blueprint with detailed implementation plan for the devolution of power and dissolutions of the provinces so when it assumes the power, it can implement it within first year of its tenure. There will be some bugs and wrinkles to be ironed out but the system will work and people will be happy.
No Sweden has no provinces at all whatsoever not even ceremonially..It is a thing of past. We have läns (20) and kommuner (290) while our neighbour Norway has more than 400 for a population of around 4.5 million people i.e. one kommun for approx 100,000 people.

vet ikke, maybe for easy governance? or something like that

but stortinget(parliament) has said that they will reduce it to 356 before 2020. a fact is taht in 1930 norway had 744 kommuner
AAh I see....I also think 426 are too many and it also becomes problem of too many,,so they are continuously reducing the number while the population is increasing.

There should be south punjab province, its bigger then KP and only have 1 senator. As N league is clearly biased towards GT road. They should have their own quotas in federal, provincial jobs, NFC, Senate etc

We don't need provinces. These divide people. What is this Punjabi, Sindhi, Muhajir, Pathan shit...we are Pakistanis and Muslims...that's enough of identity for us.
Here in Sweden....all are Swedes and same goes for USA...no one identifies him or herself by a region .. I never heard anyone saying "I'm Arizonian, I'm Nebraskian or I'm Skånish", they just say We are Americans, We are Swedes.
Lol you are comparing third world Pakistan with first world countries

Men varfor Norge har sa manga kommuner 426 eftersom din befolkning är halv av Sveriges tio miljoner
Det er fra gammelt av. Før hadde vi enda flere til tross mindre befolkning

one kommun for approx 100,000 people
Exactly. That's why my beloved Norway is the most prosperous nation on earth

Any division of the provinces has to be a well thought out plan, as local politicians will game the new system to entrench themselves, creating local fiefdoms rather than efficient administrative districts. If the Provinces are too small, each one will want the same bureaucracy of provinces they divided from. we will have more red tape, rather than less. Better to just create a South Punjab Province; thereby lowering the percentage of the population controlled by any one governor, and focus on equitable development. For Example, Southern Punjab lags behind in development on many fronts while Lahore prospers. Stopping this now, will give a chance for Southern Punjab to catch up over the next few decades. BTW along what line would Punjab be divided?

Multan, DG Khan and Bahawalpur divisions will be made part of South Punjab province.
